Point Weyland
Point Weyland is a headland located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia about west south-west of the town of Venus Bay and about north north-west of the town of Elliston. The point which is located within Anxious Bay is the southern extremity of the opening to Venus Bay. The point is described by one source as being "a conspicuous cliffy point, high, stands close S uthW stof the entrance of Venus Bay" and "rises to a height of , close N rthand slopes inland toward Venus Bay". Elliston, South Australia
Elliston is a small coastal town in the Australian state of South Australia on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula, 169 km northwest of Port Lincoln, South Australia, Port Lincoln and 641 km west of Adelaide. The township is located on Waterloo Bay. At the Census in Australia#2006, 2021 census, Elliston had a population of 333. History The first inhabitants of the land that is now Elliston were the Nauo people, Nauo. The first recorded exploration of the adjacent coastline was by Matthew Flinders in the vessel from 10–13 February 1802. He named the offshore islands but did not note the presence of Waterloo Bay in his log. Edward John Eyre explored the area on land in 1840 and 1841 on a journey to Western Australia from Port Lincoln. Eyre Peninsula
The Eyre Peninsula is a triangular peninsula in South Australia. It is bounded by the Spencer Gulf on the east, the Great Australian Bight on the west, and the Gawler Ranges to the north. Earlier called Eyre's Peninsula, it was named after explorer Edward John Eyre, who explored parts of the peninsula in 1839–41. The coastline was first charted by the expeditions of Matthew Flinders in 1801–02 and French explorer Nicolas Baudin around the same time. Venus Bay, South Australia
Venus Bay (formerly Parkin) is a small tourist and fishing town sited on the bay of the same name, on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. The town population numbers in the twenties for most of the year, but its numbers greatly increase during the summer holidays. At the , Venus Bay had a population of 139. Anxious Bay
Anxious Bay is a bay in the Australian state of South Australia located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula about west north-west of Adelaide. It was named by Matthew Flinders on 21 February 1802. It is one of four ‘ historic bays' located on the South Australian coast. Extent & description Anxious Bay lies between Cape Radstock and Cape Finniss on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula. Venus Bay Conservation Park is a protected area located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia immediately west of the town of Venus Bay. It consists of land on the Weyland Peninsula on the south side of Venus Bay, land on the north west side of the bay to the west of the town of Port Kenny and the seven islands located within the bay.
