Poima
Zaplava (), known in 2016–2024 as Poima () and before 2016 as Tsiurupynsk (), is a rural-type settlement in Ukraine, located in Oleshky urban hromada, Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast. History In accordance with decommunization laws in Ukraine, Tsiurupynsk was renamed to Poima by the Ukrainian parliament in 2016. The previous name, Tsiurupynsk, was given in honour of former CPSU Central Committee member and Gosplan chairman Alexander Tsiurupa, born in nearby Oleshky. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, it was occupied by Russia. On 23 September 2023, the administration of Oleshky urban hromada began discussions on renaming Poima to Zaplava. This was as a result of a decision by the on 22 June, determining that the name of the settlement was not in line with state language standards, as it was a transliteration from Russian. Oleshky Urban Hromada
Oleshky urban hromada () is a hromada (community) of Ukraine, in Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast. Its administrative center is the city Oleshky. Extent and settlements Its area is and its population is 38,313 people, as of 2020. It includes the city of Oleshky, the villages Kozachi Laheri, Kostohryzove, Krynky, Pidstepne, Pishchanivka, Pody, Radensk, Sahy, Solontsi, and the rural settlements and Poima. Pishchanivka () is a village in Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine. It belongs to Oleshky urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Before 1955, it was part of the village Pidstepne. Geography It is located about southeast of the riverbank of the Dnipro. Alexander Tsiurupa
Alexander Dmitryevich Tsiurupa (; — 8 May 1928) was a Bolshevik leader and Soviet politician. Biography Alexander Tsiurupa was born in Oleshky, in Taurida Governorate, Russian Empire (now Ukraine). His father was an official. After graduating from a local school, in 1887 he enrolled in the Kherson Agricultural Institute, but in 1893 was arrested and expelled for distributing anti-government literature. He worked as a statistician and agronomist, but in 1895 was arrested again. After his release, he moved to Ufa, where he joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) when it was founded, in 1898, made contact with railway workers, and met Nadezhda Krupskaya, Lenin's in 1900.
