Bud Poile
Norman Robert "Bud" Poile (February 10, 1924 – January 4, 2005) was a professional ice hockey player, coach, general manager, and league executive. Bud is the brother of Don Poile, and the father of David Poile. Overview Poile was born in Fort William, Ontario and played junior hockey for the Fort William Rangers. He began his professional career in 1942 as an 18-year-old right winger for the Toronto Maple Leafs and—after a break in his career to serve in the Second World War—was a member of the Leafs' Stanley Cup-winning team of 1947. The next season, he was traded to the Chicago Black Hawks in a multi-player deal for Max Bentley. A year later he was dealt to the Detroit Red Wings. Before the 1949–50 season he was acquired by the New York Rangers and was traded mid-season to the Boston Bruins, which would be his final stop in the NHL. David Poile
David Poile (born February 14, 1950) is the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager of the NHL's Nashville Predators. He is the son of the former NHL hockey player, coach and executive Bud Poile. Career Poile was a successful hockey player at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, still holding the record for most career hat tricks with 11. While at Northeastern Poile was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Poile began his career in the NHL as an Administrative Assistant with the then expansion Atlanta Flames in 1972. Five years after joining the Flames organization he was named as the assistant general manager. Poile left the Flames to become the vice president and general manager of the Washington Capitals. Donald Bruce Poile (born June 1, 1932) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 67 games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings between 1954 and 1958. Poile Sengupta (nee Ambika Gopalakrishnan) (born 1948) is a notable Indian writer in English. She is especially well-known as a playwright and writer for children. Her formal first name is Ambika but she writes, and is known, as Poile. La Poile is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is on La Poile Bay. The community is inaccessible by road and is served by a ferry via a port in Rose Blanche. The town mainly works in lobster fishing. As of the 2021 census, the population is 61 people. The community has a school offering grades K-9 and a small store. There is an Anglican church which offers services once a month. Health care is limited to a first responder and a visiting doctor who comes once a month, weather permitting. The town was the subject of an episode of Viceland's Abandoned. There is only one student in the local school. The last town-wide vote in 2017 did not have enough support for the residents to accept provincial money to leave the settlement under the resettlement program. Burgeo-La Poile is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011, there are 7,527 eligible voters living within the district. The district was first created when Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949 as Burgeo and La Poile, and existed until 1975. It was recreated in 1995 following a reduction in the number of seats in the House of Assembly from 52 to 48, forming from the amalgamation of the former districts of La Poile and Burgeo-Bay D'Espoir. The district takes in the southwestern corner of Newfoundland, stretching from the town of Burgeo in the east to Cape Ray in the west. Poile Zedek Synagogue was a historic synagogue at 145 Neilson Street in New Brunswick, New Jersey, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, Middlesex County, New Jersey. The congregation was founded in 1901 by a group of merchants in downtown New Brunswick's Hiram Market district. Originally named the Independent Sick and Death Benefit Association of New Brunswick, the congregation moved to its current location in 1905 and at some point began using the name Poile Zedek ("Workers of Righteousness"). The cornerstone ceremony was held for a new building on August 19, 1923, and the building was completed in 1924. The synagogue was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 25, 1995 for its significance in architecture and religion.
