Eriinae
The Eriinae form a subtribe of Podochileae, a tribe of the orchid family (Orchidaceae). The name is derived from the genus ''Eria''. The subtribe includes 24 genera with more than 900 species of epiphytic, lithophytic or (more rarely) terrestrial orchids from tropical regions of India, China, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Epidendroideae
Epidendroideae is a subfamily of plants in the orchid family, Orchidaceae. Epidendroideae is larger than all the other orchid subfamilies together, comprising more than 15,000 species in 576 genera. Most epidendroid orchids are tropical epiphytes, typically with pseudobulbs. There are, however, some terrestrials such as '' Epipactis'' and even a few myco-heterotrophs, which are parasitic upon mycorrhizal fungi. They typically contain the remaining orchids with a single, fertile anther ( = monandrous), which is also fully incumbent ( = strongly convex) to suberect (= ascending towards the edges). The anther form arises from column elongation or, as in the vandoids, from early anther bending. The incumbent anther forms a right angle with the column axis or is pointed backward in many genera. Most have hard pollinia, i.e. a mass of waxy pollen or of coherent pollen grains. The pollinia are with caudicle and viscidium or without. The stigma are entire or three-lobed; a beak is ...

Ridleyella
''Ridleyella'' is a monotypic genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae. The sole species is ''Ridleyella paniculata'', which is endemic to New Guinea. The genus name of ''Ridleyella'' is in honour of Henry Nicholas Ridley (1855–1956), an English botanist, geologist and naturalist who lived much of his life in Singapore. He was instrumental in promoting rubber trees in the Malay Peninsula. The Latin specific epithet of ''paniculata'' is derived from ''paniculatus'' meaning panicled (a much-branched inflorescence). Both the genus and the species were first described and published in Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. Beih. Vol.1 on page 948–949 in 1913. Ascidieria
''Cymboglossum'', synonym ''Ascidieria'', is a genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae. It is native to Borneo, the Philippines, Sulawesi and Sumatra. Taxonomy The genus was first described as a section of ''Eria'', ''E.'' sect. ''Cymboglossum'', by Rudolf Schlechter in 1911. In 1981, Friedrich Gustav Brieger raised it to the rank of genus, but did not correctly cite the basionym, so his name was not acceptable. In 1983, Stephan Rauschert corrected Brieger's mistake, thus validating the genus name. In 1984, Gunnar Seidenfaden established the genus ''Ascidieria''. A 2018 molecular phylogenetic study of the tribe Podochileae showed that ''Ascidieria'' and ''Cymboglossum'' should be merged. However, the authors of this study were not aware of Rauschert's validation of the name ''Cymboglossum'', and incorrectly merged the two genera under the name ''Ascidieria''. some sources continue to use this name, while others use the correct ''Cymboglossum''. Cylindrolobus
''Cylindrolobus'' is a genus of orchids with about 80 species that grow in New Guinea, Wallacea, Southeast Asia, southern China, and India. Description These herbs are epiphytic, but also rarely terrestrial. The elongate stems are slender and usually not pseudobulbous (though some species do possess a few terminal internodes, sometimes slightly swollen), with leaves along the entire length, except for some nodes at the base where persistent leaf sheaths have formed, or with some leaves towards the end/apex. The leathery leaves are alternate, conduplicate, and their shape can be linear-oblanceolate, or either narrowly elliptic or ovate. The leaves articulate to a sheathing base that tightly envelopes the stem. The usually short or slender inflorescences occur either laterally on many nodes or come from the terminal node of the stem, and have only 1 or 2-3 flowers. The peduncle is usually very much reduced. The few floral bracts are spirally arranged (in a few species they are cons ...

Thelasis
''Thelasis'', commonly known as fly orchids, is a genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae. Plants in this genus are usually epiphytes, sometimes lithophytes or rarely terrestrials. Some species have pseudobulbs with up to three leaves, whilst others have several leaves in two ranks. A large number of small, white or greenish yellow flowers are borne on a thin, arching flowering stem. There are about thirty species, distributed from tropical and subtropical Asia to the southwest Pacific. Description Plants in the genus ''Thelasis'' are mostly epiphytic or lithophytic, rarely terrestrial sympodial herbs with thin roots. They often have small pseudobulbs with up to three leaves but sometimes have flattened stems with several leaves in two ranks. Many small white or greenish yellow flowers are crowded on a thin arching flowering stem. The flowers are resupinate, tube-shaped near the base with sepals and petals free from and similar to each other although with t ...

Pinalia
''Pinalia'', commonly known as gremlin orchids, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Orchidaceae. Orchids in this genus are large epiphytic or lithophytic plants with prominent pseudobulbs, each with up to three thin, flat leaves and cup-shaped, relatively short-lived flowers with scale-like brown hairs on the outside. There are about 120 species occurring from tropical to subtropical Asia to the south-west Pacific. Description Orchids in the genus ''Pinalia'' are epiphytic or lithophytic, rarely terrestrial herbs with prominent, fleshy pseudobulbs that are covered with papery brown bracts when young. Each pseudobulb has up to three thin, leathery, linear to lance-shaped leaves. The flowers are resupinate, usually cup-shaped and last for a few days. The dorsal sepal is narrower than the lateral sepals which are attached at their base to the column to form a small ledge. The labellum is hinged to the base of the column and has three relatively small lobes. Distributio ...

Octarrhena
''Octarrhena'', commonly known as grub orchids, is a genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae. Plants in this genus are small, orchids with short stems, thin roots, short, thick, fleshy leaves arranged in two ranks and tiny flowers. The labellum is rigidly attached to the base of the column. There are about fifty species native to areas from Sri Lanka and Malesia to the Western Pacific. Description Orchids in the genus ''Octarrhena'' are small epiphytic, lithophytic or terrestrial herbs with thin roots and short stems with short, thick, fleshy leaves, their bases sheathing the stem. A large number of tiny, usually white, cream-coloured, yellowish or greenish flowers are arranged on a flowering stem arising from a leaf axil. The sepals and petals are free from each other, the petals usually much smaller than the sepals. The labellum is small, unlobed, rigidly fixed to the column and lacks a spur. Phreatia
''Phreatia'', commonly known as lace orchids, is a genus of flowering plants from the orchid family, Orchidaceae, native to regions bordering the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Plants in this genus are epiphytes, sometimes with pseudobulbs, in which case there are usually one or two leaves. Others lack pseudobulbs but have up to twelve leaves. A large number of small white or greenish flowers are borne on a flowering stem emerging from a leaf axil or from the base of the pseudobulb when present but the flowers do not open widely. There are about 220 species, distributed from tropical and subtropical Asia to the Pacific. Description Orchids in the genus ''Phratia'' are epiphytic herbs similar to those in the genus '' Thelasis'' and sometimes have pseudobulbs with one or two leaves or otherwise lack pseudobulbs and have up to twelve leaves. A large number of small flowers are arranged on a flowering stem that emerges from the top of the pseudobulb when present or from a leaf axil. The ...
