Podemos (Brazil)
Podemos (PODE; , ), previously known as the National Labour Party ( pt, Partido Trabalhista Nacional, PTN) is a Brazilian political party which supports direct democracy. Led by the Abreu family (José Masci de Abreu, Dorival de Abreu and Renata Abreu) since its foundation in 1995, the PTN changed its name to Podemos in 2016, but ideologically it differs significantly from the Spanish party Podemos. The party even claims that the inspiration for its name was not in any other party, but rather in the slogan of Barack Obama's campaign "Yes, we can". In 2018, the party chose Senator Alvaro Dias as its candidate for the presidency of Brazil. Renata Abreu
Renata Hellmeister de Abreu (born 15 April 1982) is a Brazilian politician. She is a federal deputy for the state of São Paulo and president of the political party Podemos. Personal life Abreu is the daughter of the founder of the Podemos party José Masci de Abreu and niece of the co-founder Dorival de Abreu. Her mother is Cristina Hellmeister de Abreu, and she is married to Gabriel Melo and has two children. Abreu is an alumnus of the Mackenzie Presbyterian University. Political career Since her time as president of Podemos, Abreu has been successful in persuading other politicians to join her party. Only 8 politicians from the Podemos party were elected to the federal chamber of deputies in the 2014 election, but in April 2018 Abrue managed to persuade a further 14 politicians to switch parties, boosting the number of Podemos in the legislature to 22. The Social Christian Party ( pt, Partido Social Cristão, PSC) is a Christian-conservative political party in Brazil. In the 2018 election, the party elected 2 Governors, 1 Senator, 9 Federal Deputies and 30 State Deputies. History The party was founded in 1985, as a Christian democratic party. The party supported Fernando Collor de Mello in the presidential election of 1989, and in 1990, the party won first place in the state election for Alagoas, the home state of then-President Collor. Avante (, ) is a centrist Brazilian political party. It was founded in 1989 by dissidents of the Brazilian Labour Party (PTB) as the Labour Party of Brazil (''Partido Trabalhista do Brasil'', PTdoB) and is a minor force in Brazilian politics. In 1998, the party chose João de Deus Barbosa as its Presidential candidate; he received 200,000 votes (0.2%). Progressistas
Progressistas (; PP) is a centre-right to right-wing political party in Brazil. Founded in 1995 as the Brazilian Progressive Party, it emerged from parties that were successors to ARENA, the ruling party of the Brazilian military dictatorship. A pragmatist party, it supported the governments of presidents Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff, and Michel Temer. Michel Miguel Elias Temer Lulia (; born 23 September 1940) is a Brazilian politician, lawyer and writer who served as the 37th president of Brazil from 31 August 2016 to 31 December 2018. He took office after the impeachment and removal from office of his predecessor Dilma Rousseff. He had been the 24th vice president of Brazil since 2011 and acting president since 12 May 2016, when Rousseff's powers and duties were suspended pending an impeachment trial. 2016 Brazilian Municipal Elections
The Brazilian municipal elections of 2016 took place on 2 October 2016 and on 30 October 2016 (for cities with more than 200,000 voters, where the second round is available). Electors chose mayors, vice-mayors and city councillors of all 5,568 cities of the country. The partisan conventions took place between 20 July and 5 August. The party political broadcast started on 26 August and ended on 29 September. Until 2012, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays there was the broadcast for candidates to city halls, 30 minutes long. The broadcasts for candidates for city councils were broadcast on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, also 30 minutes long. At least 97 cities had only one candidate for mayor in these elections. Besides that, 48.8% of the cities of the country didn't have more than two candidates.
