Pockets (band)
Pockets are an American R&B band. They had three top 40 R&B hits in the late 1970s. They are best known for their single "Come Go with Me (Pockets song), Come Go With Me". History The Baltimore based band was firstly dubbed the Pockets by singer Luther Ingram as a description of their musical style. As a septet the band went on to record several demos at Sheffield Studios in 1975. Being mostly top 40 covers and four original songs these records didn't make much of an impact. With this being so band member Al McKinney eventually met up with John Mackey (American football), John Mackey of the Baltimore Colts. Mackey happened to be Verdine White's next-door neighbor and thus a cassette of the group was passed along to White who became impressed. White went on to bring in Larry Jacobs from San Francisco to be the group's lead vocalist. As an eight-man band the Pockets got signed in 1977 to Columbia Records. So Delicious (song)
So Delicious was a hit for the Baltimore soul/funk group Pockets. It was the 3rd hit for the group which had previously had hits with "Come Go With Me" and " Take It On Up". Background The song was backed with a cover of the Delfonics 1968 hit " La-La (Means I Love You)". It appeared on the B side of their album ''So Delicious'' which was released in August 1979 on the Arc label. The single, like the album was a joint co-production by Verdine White, and Robert Wright. Breakwater is an American funk band from Philadelphia. The band released two albums: ''Breakwater'' in 1978, and ''Splashdown (Breakwater album), Splashdown'' in 1980. The latter features the song "Release the Beast", which was sampled on "Robot Rock (song), Robot Rock" by electronic duo Daft Punk. Background The band, originally from Philadelphia was formed in 1971. Maurice White
Maurice White (December 19, 1941 – February 4, 2016) was an American musician, best known as the founder, leader, main songwriter and chief producer of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, also serving as the band's co-lead singer with Philip Bailey. Described as a "visionary" by ''Vibe'' and a "mastermind" by ''Variety'', White was nominated for a total of 22 Grammys, of which he won seven.
