Pocketbooks
Pocketbooks was an indiepop band formed in London in 2006. Their music combined melodic boy/girl harmonies, spiralling guitars and delicate piano lines with a dash of 60s soul. The band first introduced themselves to the world by appearing on the 2006 compilation ''The Kids At The Club'', released on How Does It Feel To Be Loved?, alongside indiepop favourites such as Suburban Kids With Biblical Names, Tender Trap, I’m From Barcelona and Voxtrot. As well as playing gigs across the UK, Europe and the USA, they headlined the first ever Indietracks event on a steam railway in April 2007 which later turned into the annual Indietracks Festival which several members of the band helped to organise. Odd Box Records
Odd Box Records was a Great Britain, British DIY culture, DIY indiepop record label started in London but was finally based in Cardiff, Wales, following relocation in 2016. It was hailed as a "big presence on the indiepop scene." History Odd Box was launched in 2009, after the dissolution of earlier imprint Lost Music Records. The label has issued a steady and wide-ranging series of albums, Extended Play, EPs and single (music), singles since that time including well-received releases by The Wolfhounds, Pocketbooks, Sarandon (band), Sarandon, The Manhattan Love Suicides, Martha (band), Martha, Joanna Gruesome, The Blanche Hudson Weekend and The Ethical Debating Society, as well as other musical ensemble, groups such as The Millipedes, The Humms, The Wednesday Club, One Happy Island, The Monorals, The Smittens, Ace Bushy Striptease, Pale Man Made, Tyrannosaurus Dead, Wolf Girl (British band), Wolf Girl and Giant Burger. Indietracks
Indietracks was an annual indie pop music festival at the Midland Railway in Butterley, Derbyshire, UK. The main site was located at Swanwick Junction. Bands played in variety of locations, including a restored church, in a train shed, and on the moving trains themselves. The event was staffed by volunteers, with the proceeds from the festival going towards the upkeep and renovation of the site and trains. The first indiepop event held at the centre was in April 2007, organised by steam train restorer Stuart Mackay. Indietracks was established as a two-day festival in summer that year. Reviewing the 2011 festival, Malcolm Jack of ''The Guardian'' described the artists as "so obscure you have to wonder if they've even heard of themselves". The Loves
The Loves were a heavily 1960s influenced pop band, formed in 2000 in Cardiff, Wales. Their debut album ''Love'' was released on Track and Field Records in 2004, but attracted generally hostile press coverage, and was commercially unsuccessful. Recorded mostly by Simon Love alone, their second album ''Technicolour'' was released in 2007 on Fortuna Pop. The band recorded four Peel sessions between 2001 and 2002: three in Maida Vale and one at Peel Acres (on Valentine's Day 2002). Their third album, ''Three'', (also released on Fortuna Pop) featured guest appearances from Rob Jones aka The Voluntary Butler Scheme, Delia Sparrow, Hefner's Darren Hayman and Harry Hill's ''TV Burp'' writer Daniel Maier. The Loves fourth and final album, ''...Love You'', was released on Fortuna Pop in 2010. It features The Velvet Underground's Doug Yule as the voice of Jesus. How Does It Feel To Be Loved?
How Does It Feel to Be Loved? (often abbreviated to HDIF) is a London-based nightclub which predominantly plays indie pop, Northern Soul and Motown music. On the club's website, founder Ian Watson explains: "We love pop, we love guitars that jangle, we love foot stomping melodies and huge choruses." The club's name is taken from the lyrics to The Velvet Underground song " Beginning to See the Light". History Watson, a former ''Melody Maker'' journalist, began the night in April 2002 at The Buffalo Bar in Islington. HDIF takes place on the third Saturday of the month at The Phoenix in Marylebone, central London. Vivian Girls is an American band based in Brooklyn, New York. The only consistent members have been Cassie Ramone and Katy Goodman, on guitar and bass, respectively; the group has had several drummers throughout its history. Everett True
Everett True (born Jeremy Andrew Thackray on 21 April 1961) is an English music journalist and musician. He became interested in rock music after hearing The Residents, and formed a band with school friends. He has written and recorded as The Legend! Career In 1982, he went to a gig by The Laughing Apple and met the group's lead singer Alan McGee. According to McGee: "there used to be this guy who'd stand at the front of all the gigs and dance disjointedly". BBC Radio 6 Music is a British digital radio station owned and operated by the BBC, specialising primarily in alternative music. BBC 6 Music was the first national music radio station to be launched by the BBC in 32 years. It is available only on digital media: DAB radio, BBC Sounds, digital television, and throughout northern and western Europe through the Astra 2B satellite.
