Poble-Sec
(; ) is a neighborhood in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain). The neighborhood is located between Montjuïc mountain and the Avinguda del Paral·lel. It covers around 70 hectares. The Poble Sec station of the Barcelona Metro is located in, and named after, this neighborhood. It has an estimated population, at the beginning of 2020, of 40,139 inhabitants. District development The area began its official development in the 19th century, evolving each decade with changes in its population, cuisine, entertainment, and culture. The neighborhood now showcases a blend of old and new on every corner. Before the late 1800s, the city was confined by walls, resulting in overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and harsh working environments. This led people to move outside the walls of Barcelona to what is now known as Poble Sec. Sants-Montjuïc
Sants-Montjuïc () is one of the ten districts into which Barcelona has been split since 1984, numbered District 3. Comprising very different areas of the city, it covers the southern part of Barcelona, joining the two former districts ''II'' (made up by Montjuïc and Poble-Sec) and ''VII'' ( Sants ― Hostafrancs ― La Bordeta), as well as the different areas comprised in the Zona Franca. As of the 2005, census it had a population of 177,636. It borders Les Corts, Eixample, Ciutat Vella, and the municipalities L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and El Prat de Llobregat. It was one of the former municipalities added to Barcelona. The former municipality had the main nucleus in the neighbourhood of Sants but other current neighbourhoods of the district belonged to that municipality. Maritime Museum Of Barcelona
The Maritime Museum of Barcelona (, MMB) is located in the building of '' Drassanes Reials de Barcelona'', the royal arsenal of Barcelona, dedicated to shipbuilding between the thirteenth century and eighteenth century. The first mention of these arsenals date from 1243 in a document indicating the boundaries of the city of Barcelona where it mentions its shipyard. It shows the history of the navigation from the early days together with the history of the Spanish Navy since the Catholic Monarchs, in the 15th century, up to the present. Barcelona Metro
The Barcelona Metro (Catalan language, Catalan and Spanish language, Spanish: ) is a rapid transit network that runs mostly underground in central Barcelona and into the city's suburbs. It is part of the larger public transport system of Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, Spain, with unified fares under the (ATM) scheme. As of 2024, the network is operated by two separate companies: (TMB) and (FGC). It is made up of 12 lines, combining the lines owned by the two companies. Poble Sec (Barcelona Metro)
Poble Sec is a station of the Barcelona Metro network located in the neighbourhood of the same name, in the district of Sants-Montjuïc, Barcelona. It is served by L3 (green line), and was previously known as Parlamento. The station is located directly under ''Avinguda del Paral·lel'' between '' Carrer de Manso'' and '' Carrer del Parlament''. It can be accessed from entrances in ''Carrer de Manso'' and '' Carrer de Teodor Bonaplata''. The platforms are long each and are one next to another, albeit separated by a wall. The station opened in 1975, along with the other stations of the section of L3 between Paral·lel and Sants Estació stations. This section was originally operated separately from L3 and known as L3b. The station adopted its current name in 1982 at about the same time that L3b was merged with L3 proper. Avinguda Del Paral·lel
Avinguda del Paral·lel (; 'Avenue of the Parallel') is one of the main streets of the city of Barcelona, dividing Ciutat Vella, Eixample and Sants-Montjuïc districts. It receives this name because it is (unlike any other street in Barcelona) parallel to the Equator (at 41°22′30″ North). It runs from Plaça d'Espanya, where the city's exhibition halls are located, to the seafront, Plaça de la Carbonera and the passenger ship port, dividing the neighbourhood of Poble Sec, on the side of Montjuïc, from the neighbourhoods of Sant Antoni and El Raval. Montjuïc () is a hill in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Montjuïc or Montjuich, meaning "Jewish Mountain" in medieval Latin and Catalan, is a broad, shallow hill in Barcelona with a rich history. It was the birthplace of the city, and its strategic location, between the Mediterranean and the Llobregat River, has made it significant throughout history. The hill has a medieval Jewish cemetery, declared an area of Cultural Asset of National Interest in 2007. Districts Of Barcelona
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain is divided into 10 districts. These are administered by a councillor designated by the main city council, and each of them have some powers relating to issues such as urbanism or infrastructure in their area. The current division of the city into different districts was approved in 1984. Catalonia is (as of 2018) divided into 947 Municipalities of Spain, municipalities.
