Plymouth Life Centre
The Plymouth Life Centre is a leisure centre in Central Park, Plymouth run by Plymouth Active (Previously Everyone Active) in partnership with Plymouth City Council. Its facilities include a family leisure pool, a climbing wall, an eight-lane indoor bowls centre, fitness suite, a 10 lane 50-metre Olympic standard swimming pool, an Olympic standard diving pool, along with dryside training facilities, showers and a multipurpose area for dance and martial arts. It is currently the only 12 court multipurpose sports hall in Devon. The climbing wall facility is managed by High Sports. The aquatic facilities are the largest facility in southern England and were used by several teams training for the 2012 Olympics. The Life Centre replaces the Mayflower Centre and Central Park Leisure Pools. It opened in March 2012 at a cost of £46.5m. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". ''Splash!'' is a British television series that follows celebrities learning diving. The celebrities performed each week in front of a panel of judges and a live audience in an Olympic-size diving pool with the result each week partly determined by public vote. Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay presented the show, whilst Team GB Olympic Gold Medal-winning diver Tom Daley was the expert mentor to the celebrities. It was filmed at the Inspire: Luton Sports Village, which is based in Stopsley, Luton. Benjamin Proud (born 21 September 1994) is an English competitive swimmer, representing Great Britain at the Olympic Games, the FINA World Aquatics Championships and LEN European Aquatics Championships, and England at the Commonwealth Games. Proud specialises in sprint freestyle and butterfly races, specifically the 50-metre distance in both. He is the 2022 World Champion in the 50 metre freestyle, his second long course world title. He is the 2017 world champion in the 50-metre butterfly. Plymouth Life Centre Indoor Bowls Club
The Plymouth Life Centre Indoor Bowls Club, an indoor bowls club, was formed in 1969 under the name of Plymouth Indoor Bowls Club, initially playing on a roll out mat by the swimming pool in Central Park, Plymouth. The club has gone from strength to strength, members winning national and regional titles. The club re-located to Plymouth Life Centre in 2011 and took their new name to reflect their new location. In 2012, they raised £1,662.65 for the Highbury Trust in Plymouth. The club is affiliated to the EIBA, (English Indoor Bowling Association Ltd). Mayflower Centre
The Mayflower Centre was a leisure centre in the city of Plymouth, Devon, England. It was situated in Central Park, close to Plymouth Argyle Football Club. The centre was originally built in 1971 as an exhibition centre for the 350th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower; it was extended several times. In 1973 a four rink indoor bowls facility was built; this facility was home to one of the largest bowls clubs in the area. In 1979 an indoor five-a-side hall was added and there were over 100 teams competing in various leagues throughout the year. Four squash courts were added in 1980, two of which were later converted into a meeting training room and a kickboxing/martial art studio. The Mayflower Centre was home to English Basketball League team the Tamar Valley Cannons and was home to Plymouth Raiders from 1983 until their move to the Plymouth Pavilions in 1996. Climbing Wall
A climbing wall is an artificially constructed wall with grips for hands and feet, usually used for indoor climbing, but sometimes located outdoors. Some are brick or wooden constructions, but on most modern walls, the material most often used is a thick multiplex board with holes drilled into it.
