Pluto LNG
Pluto LNG is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant operated by Woodside Energy on the Burrup Peninsula The Burrup Peninsula, previously known as Dampier Island, is a former island of the Dampier Archipelago that is now connected to the mainland via a causeway. The peninsula and islands together are also known as Murujuga. The peninsula is locate ..., Western Australia. The Pluto gas field was discovered in April 2005, government approvals for development were obtained in 2007 and the facility began producing LNG in 2012. The facility has a single 5.9 Mtpa (million tonnes per annum) LNG train, small 25 TJ per day pipeline gas export facility and an LNG truck loading facility. Gas is supplied by the Pluto A platform, located north-west of Karratha in of water. A second ~5 Mpta train and 225 TJ per day pipeline gas export facility were approved for construction at the site in 2021 as part of development of the Scarborough gas field. The first LNG produced from Scarborough ...

Burrup Peninsula
The Burrup Peninsula, previously known as Dampier Island, is a former island of the Dampier Archipelago that is now connected to the mainland via a causeway. The peninsula and islands together are also known as Murujuga. The peninsula is located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and contains the town of Dampier as well as the Murujuga National Park. The Dampier Rock Art Precinct, which encompasses the peninsula and archipelago, contains the world's largest collection of ancient 40,000 year old rock art (petroglyphs). There is ongoing political debate around industrial development on the Burrup as it has resulted in the physical destruction and disturbance of petroglyphs and is potentially causing ongoing damage via atmospheric pollution. The region is sometimes confused with the Dampier Peninsula, to the north-east. Description of rock art Most Murujuga rock art is on 2.7 billion year old igneous rocks. The rock art was made by etching away the outer millimetres of ...

Liquified Natural Gas
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas (predominantly methane, CH4, with some mixture of ethane, C2H6) that has been cooled to liquid form for ease and safety of non-pressurized storage or transport. It takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state at standard temperature and pressure. LNG is odorless, colorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive. Hazards include flammability after vaporization into a gaseous state, freezing and asphyxia. The liquefaction process involves removal of certain components, such as dust, acid gases, helium, water, and heavy hydrocarbons, which could cause difficulty downstream. The natural gas is then condensed into a liquid at close to atmospheric pressure by cooling it to approximately ; maximum transport pressure is set at around ( gauge pressure), which is about 0.25 times atmospheric pressure at sea level. The gas extracted from underground hydrocarbon deposits contains a varying mix of hydrocarbon components, which ...

Natural-gas Condensate
Natural-gas condensate, also called natural gas liquids, is a low-density mixture of hydrocarbon liquids that are present as gaseous components in the raw natural gas produced from many natural natural gas field, gas fields. Some gas species within the raw natural gas will condense to a liquid state if the temperature is reduced to below the hydrocarbon dew point temperature at a set pressure. The natural gas condensate is also called condensate, or gas condensate, or sometimes natural gasoline because it contains hydrocarbons within the gasoline boiling range, and is also referred to by the shortened name condy by many workers on gas installations. Raw natural gas used to create condensate may come from any type of gas well such as: * Crude Oil well, oil wells: Natural gas that comes from crude oil wells is typically called ''associated gas''. This gas could exist as a separate gas cap above the crude oil in the underground reservoir or could be dissolved in the crude oil, ulti ...

Kansai Electric Power Company
, also known as , is an electric utility with its operational area of Kansai region, Japan (including the Keihanshin megalopolis). The Kansai region is Japan's second-largest industrial area, and in normal times, its most nuclear-reliant. Before the Fukushima nuclear disaster, a band of 11 nuclear reactors – north of the major cities Osaka and Kyoto – supplied almost 50 percent of the region's power. As of January 2012, only one of those reactors was still running. In March 2012, the last reactor was taken off the powergrid. Power plants Kansai Electric Power Company has 164 plants with a total production capacity of 35,760 MW. Nuclear Thermal Hydro Accidents and incidents Mihama accident in 2004 On 9 August 2004, KEPCO reported that five of its employees were killed by a steam burst in the turbines housing building, at the Mihama Nuclear Power Plant in Fukui Prefecture. The burst, according to KEPCO, was due to the neglect of mandated safety checks and th ...

Karratha, Western Australia
Karratha is a city in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, adjoining the port of Dampier. It is located in the traditional lands and waters of the Ngarluma people, for whom it has been ( or 'country') for tens of thousands of years. Located about east-southeast of the site of three nuclear weapons tests by the British (Operation Hurricane in 1952 and Operation Mosaic in 1956), it was established in 1968 to accommodate the processing and exportation workforce of the Hamersley Iron mining company and, in the 1980s, the petroleum and liquefied natural gas operations of the Woodside-operated North West Shelf Venture located on Murujuga. As of the , Karratha had an urban population of 17,013. The city's name comes from the cattle station of the same name, which derives from a word in a local Aboriginal language meaning "good country" or "soft earth". More recently, Ngarluma people have indicated the name may actually relate to an early interpretation of , stemming from t ...

Scarborough Gas Field
The Scarborough gas field is a natural gas field located in the Indian Ocean north-west of Exmouth on the coast of Western Australia. The total Contingent Resource of the Scarborough gas field is around 7.3 trillion cubic feet. In 2018 Woodside bought ExxonMobil's 50% share of the retention lease, adding to the 25% it had acquired from BHP in 2016. Woodside now owns 75% of the retention lease and are operator of the joint venture, with BHP retaining the final 25%. On 7 April 2022, the company announced that final Australian federal and state government approvals for the project had been received. Offshore development concept The Scarborough gas field is currently not a producing asset. Woodside is proposing to develop the Scarborough resource with 12 subsea, high-rate gas wells tied back to a semi-submersible platform moored in 900 m of water. The ~20,000 t topsides has processing facilities for gas dehydration and compression to transport the gas through a ~400 km pipe ...

Natural Gas In Western Australia
Nature is an inherent character or constitution, particularly of the ecosphere or the universe as a whole. In this general sense nature refers to the laws, elements and phenomena of the physical world, including life. Although humans are part of nature, human activity or humans as a whole are often described as at times at odds, or outright separate and even superior to nature. During the advent of modern scientific method in the last several centuries, nature became the passive reality, organized and moved by divine laws. With the Industrial Revolution, nature increasingly became seen as the part of reality deprived from intentional intervention: it was hence considered as sacred by some traditions (Rousseau, American transcendentalism) or a mere decorum for divine providence or human history (Hegel, Marx). However, a vitalist vision of nature, closer to the pre-Socratic one, got reborn at the same time, especially after Charles Darwin. Within the various uses of the word t ...
