Plopi, Timișoara
Plopi (; ), formerly known as I. G. Duca, is a district of Timișoara, Romania. Before becoming a district of Timișoara, it was an independent settlement. It was annexed to Timișoara together with Ghiroda Nouă in 1949. It has seven main streets that start from the Bega River. Local landmarks include the hydroelectic plant, the Aquatim water treatment plant, the Rudolf Walther children's village, and the Enel power transformer station. History Before 1918, most of the land was owned by née Malva Klaritz, the widow of Count László Gyürky. She apportioned the land for a fee to those who wanted it, her name appearing in the land register of Ghiroda commune until the 2000s. In the 1930 census, the localities of Ștrand-Gyürki, Cardoș, Schmidt-Szegedi, Șarta and Slavek, which will form the future district, were part of the Ghiroda commune. Ghiroda Nouă
Ghiroda Nouă (, also ''Erzsébetpuszta''; ) is a district of Timișoara, located in the eastern part of the city, north of the Bega Canal. Originally called Colonia Crișan (; ), it is located on the lands that, around 1750, were the rice fields of Timișoara. It was annexed to the city in 1949. History Today's district was established on 23 September 1932 by detaching Crișan, Bogdan, Ștrand-Gyürki, Cardoș, Schmidt-Szegedi, Șarta and Slavek from the Ghiroda, commune of Ghiroda to form the rural commune of Ghiroda Nouă, following ''Decision no. 24,768 of 23 September 1932'' of the prefecture of Timiș-Torontal County. Timișoara Hydroelectric Plant
The Timișoara Hydroelectric Plant is one of the first hydroelectric power plants built in Europe and the oldest on the continent still operating. It is a monument istoric, historical monument located on the territory of Timișoara, with the LMI code TM-II-m-A-06094. History Construction of the hydroelectric power plant started in 1909, and it became operational on 3 May 1910, supplying 89% of the electricity consumption in Timișoara with a production of 4.132 GW.
