Plesná () is a town in Cheb District in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,900 inhabitants. Administrative division Plesná consists of four municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): *Plesná (1,755) *Lomnička (89) *Smrčina (6) *Vackov (8) Geography Plesná is located about north of Cheb and west of Karlovy Vary, on the border with Germany. It lies in the Fichtel Mountains. The highest point is the hill Bukový vrch at above sea level. The Plesná River flows through the town. The Plesná () is a river in the Czech Republic and Germany. It flows through Saxony in Germany and through the Karlovy Vary Region. It is a left tributary of the Ohře River. It is long. Etymology The name Plesná is probably derived from the Old Czech adjective ''blizní'' (i.e. 'close', 'nearby') and refers to the confluence with the Ohře, which is very close to the confluence of the Ohře with the Sázek Stream (so the river is "close to another stream"). Isaac Mayer Wise (29 March 1819 – 26 March 1900) was an American Reform rabbi, editor, and author. Early life Wise was born on 29 March 1819 in Steingrub in Bohemia (today Lomnička, a part of Plesná in the Czech Republic). He was the son of Löbl Doktor and Regina Weiss; since his parents weren't civilly married, he went by his mother's surname. He received his early Hebrew education from his father and grandfather, later continuing his Hebrew and secular studies in Prague. He may have received the '' hattarat hora'ah'' from the Prague bet din, composed of Rabbis Rapoport, Samuel Freund, and E. L. Teweles, or from Rabbi Falk Kohn, however there is debate as to whether he was an ordained rabbi at all. It was even a source of controversy with his intellectual rival, Rabbi David Einhorn. Fichtel Mountains
The Fichtel Mountains (, ; ) is a mountain range in Germany and the Czech Republic. They extend from the valley of the Red Main River in northeastern Bavaria to the Karlovy Vary Region in western Czech Republic. The Fichtel Mountains contain an important nature park, the Fichtel Mountain Nature Park. The Elster Mountains are a part of the Fichtel Mountains.
