''Pleistodontes '' pollinates species in section ''Malvanthera'' of the ''Ficus'' subgenus ''Urostigma''. In their revision of the Australian members of the genus, Carlos Lopez-Vaamonde and coauthors expressed the opinion that ''P. claviger'' did not belong in the genus.
