Pleasure Island (Walt Disney World)
Pleasure Island was an area of the Downtown Disney shopping, dining and entertainment district at Walt Disney World Resort. It officially opened on May 1, 1989. In September 2008, all of its clubs were closed, but its retail stores and restaurants remained open. The area is now called The Landing and is the central part of Disney Springs. History As the name originates from a fictional location in Walt Disney's 1940 film ''Pinocchio'', Pleasure Island opened emulating Church Street Station in Downtown Orlando, Florida. At that time, this was a highly successful gated attraction which offered admission to multiple clubs for one price. The legend the Disney Company created is that Pleasure Island was based on the fictitious owner, Merriweather Adam Pleasure, and was carried on into one of its clubs, The Adventurers Club. Pleasure Island was an amusement park located in Wakefield, Massachusetts. The park, billed as the "Disneyland of the Northeast", was in business from 1959 to 1969. During its short existence it went through several owners and was financially handicapped by New England's relatively short summers. Pleasure Island (Muskegon, Michigan Water Park)
Pleasure Island Water Theme Park was a water park located on in Muskegon, Michigan located at 99 E. Pontaluna Road. The park operated in the 1980s and 1990s, consisting of 13 water slides, mini golf, a beach with zip line, paddle boats, gas-powered bumper boats, a lazy river, and a children' swim area with three small water slides. The feature attraction was a water slide named the Black Hole which was built into a hill and started out with a steep drop which then circled back into the hill, finally coming out of the hill into a pool of water at the base. Pleasure Island was also known for the food served at the Weenie Hut. When nearby Michigan's Adventure added its WildWater Adventure water park, the competition was too much and Pleasure Island closed. The park was auctioned off in 1997. Pleasure Island Family Theme Park was a theme park in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, England. It was commonly known as Pleasure Island. The park opened on 27 May 1993. It was originally a subsidiary of Flamingo Land Ltd. Pleasure Island became independent of Flamingo Land in May 2010 and was owned and operated by DewarSavile Enterprises Ltd until closing at the end of the 2016 season. History Pleasure Island Family Theme Park stood on the site of the former Cleethorpes Marineland and Zoo. Owned and operated as a satellite zoo of Flamingo Park, and later by Scotia Leisure, the zoo had such attractions as dolphins, sea lions and pelicans. The zoo closed in 1977. The site was sold to Pleasureworld, a division of RKF Entertainment, who announced that a new theme park would be built, as a sister park to the Pleasurewood Hills park near Lowestoft and bearing the same name. Pleasure Island is a coastal barrier island in Southeastern North Carolina, United States, just south of the City of Wilmington, North Carolina, Wilmington. Pleasure Island is located within Federal Point Township, in New Hanover County, North Carolina, New Hanover County. The Land of Toys () is a fictional location in the Italian novel ''The Adventures of Pinocchio'' (1883) that is disguised as a haven of freedom and anarchy for children, but is eventually discovered to be far more sinister. To its unsuspecting visitors (like Pinocchio and Candlewick), the Land of Toys appears to be a fantastic haven for wayward children to do whatever they want with no consequences or law; to act as they please without recrimination.
