Pleasure Island Family Theme Park was a theme park in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, England. It was commonly known as Pleasure Island. The park opened on 27 May 1993. It was originally a subsidiary of Flamingo Land Ltd. Pleasure Island became independent of Flamingo Land in May 2010 and was owned and operated by DewarSavile Enterprises Ltd until closing at the end of the 2016 season. History Pleasure Island Family Theme Park stood on the site of the former Cleethorpes Marineland and Zoo. Owned and operated as a satellite zoo of Flamingo Park, and later by Scotia Leisure, the zoo had such attractions as dolphins, sea lions and pelicans. The zoo closed in 1977. The site was sold to Pleasureworld, a division of RKF Entertainment, who announced that a new theme park would be built, as a sister park to the Pleasurewood Hills park near Lowestoft and bearing the same name. Cleethorpes
Cleethorpes () is a seaside town on the estuary of the Humber in North East Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, England with a population of 29,678 in 2021. It has been permanently occupied since the 6th century, with fishing as its original industry, then developing into a resort in the 19th century. Before becoming a unified town, Cleethorpes was made up of the three small villages of Itterby, Oole and Thrunscoe. The town lies on the Prime meridian, Greenwich meridian and its average annual rainfall is amongst the lowest in the British Isles. Boomerang is a model of roller coaster manufactured and designed by Vekoma, a Netherlands, Dutch manufacturer. The roller coaster model name is from the Boomerang, hunting implement based on the traditions of the Indigenous Australians. , there are 55 Boomerangs operating around the world. Gulliver's World
Gulliver's World is a theme park located in Warrington, England, loosely based on the world of Lilliput from Gulliver's Travels. It consists of the themed areas Land, Gully Town, and Safari Kingdom. The park's attractions were designed for children between the ages of 2 and 13. Splash Zone and Blast Arena are two indoor attractions located next to the main theme park. Funland (Hayling Island)
Funland Hayling Island is an amusement park on Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, England. Funland Hayling Island contains 18 rides, an amusement arcade (as well as various independently operating arcades nearby), Diane's Diner, a kids' play area and a pirate-themed golf course. The park is a typical funfair-styled park with the rides mainly being travelling rides from various independent funfair operators, with some rides sourced from other amusement parks. History Funland amusement park opened in 1984 on the site of a former Butlins which dated back to the 1930s. In 1977 the Freehold (law), freehold for the land was passed from Billy Butlin to the Hill family who had been tenants on the land since the 1940s. Bumper Cars
Bumper cars or dodgems are the generic names for a type of flat amusement ride consisting of multiple small electrically powered cars which draw power from the floor or ceiling, and which are turned on and off remotely by an operator. They are also known as bumping cars, dodging cars and dashing cars. The first patent for them was filed in 1921. Pirate Ship (ride)
A pirate ship is a type of amusement ride based on pirate ships, consisting of an open, seated gondola (usually in the style of a pirate ship) which swings back and forth, subjecting the rider to various levels of angular momentum. A variant where the riders must pull on ropes to swing the ride is known as a swing boat. The swing ride or chair swing ride (sometimes called a swing carousel, wave swinger, yo-yo, waver swinger, Chair-O-Planes, Dodo or swinger) is an amusement ride that is a variation on the carousel in which the seats are suspended from the rotating top of the carousel. Ripsaw (Alton Towers)
Ripsaw was a Top Spin (ride), Top Spin ride previously located at Alton Towers, Alton Towers Resort in Staffordshire, England. It opened in 1997 and closed at the end of 2015. History The ride opened on 15 March 1997 alongside The Blade (which had been relocated and rethemed within the park) in the Forbidden Valley park section, replacing Thunder Looper, a Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop roller coaster. It was just opposite of Nemesis (roller coaster), Nemesis in the park. The theming on and around the ride resembled that of heavy-duty machinery, with the main centrepiece of a ride being a large twist drill bit located above the riders. The Flambards Experience
Flambards Theme Park was an amusement park on the southern outskirts of the town of Helston in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1976 as the Cornwall Aero Park by Douglas Kingsford Hale MBE. The park's final season was 2024, with the closure announced on 4 November 2024. History Flambards first opened in 1976 under the name of 'Cornwall Aero Park'. Owned by Douglas Kingsford Hale MBE, the park slowly built up an array of aircraft, models and exhibitions. In 1984, "Britain in the Blitz," a mockup of a bomb-hit street during World War II, was opened. By 1990, the park had grown and was renamed "The Flambards Experience."
