A platter is a large type of dishware used for serving food. It is a tray on which food is displayed and served to people. Its shape can be oval, round, octagonal, rectangular, or square. It can be made of metal, ceramic, plastic, glass or wood. Plain and ornate platters suitable for more formal settings or occasions are made of, or plated with, silver, and antique examples are considered quite valuable. Especially expensive and ceremonial platters have been made of gold. In restaurant terminology, a platter is often a main dish served on a platter with one or more side dishes, such as a salad or french fries. Platter (foaled 1941 in Kentucky) was an American Thoroughbred Champion racehorse. He is best known for his performances as a two-year-old in 1943, when he was the best American colt of his generation. Background He was bred and raced by George D. Widener Jr., and conditioned for racing by future U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer Bert Mulholland, Racing career In 1943 he won the Pimlico Futurity and the Walden Stakes under jockey Conn McCreary and was voted American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt by Daily Racing Form. The rival Turf & Sports Digest Magazine poll was topped by Occupy. As a three-year-old, an injury kept Platter out of racing until early May in an allowance race test. The colt did not run in the 1944 Kentucky Derby but finished second to Pensive in the second leg of the U.S. Triple Crown series, the Preakness Stakes. Hard Disk Drive Platter
A hard disk drive platter or hard disk is the circular magnetic disk on which digital data is stored in a hard disk drive. The rigid nature of the platters is what gives them their name (as opposed to the flexible materials which are used to make floppy disks). Hard drives typically have several platters which are mounted on the same spindle. A platter can store information on both sides, typically requiring two recording heads per platter, one per surface. Design The magnetic surface of each platter is divided into small sub-micrometer-sized magnetic regions, each of which is used to represent a single binary unit of information. Platter Lift
A surface lift is a type of cable transport for mountain sports in which skiers, snowboarders, or Mountain bike, mountain bikers remain on the ground as they are pulled uphill. While they were once prevalent, they have been overtaken in popularity by higher-capacity and higher-comfort aerial lifts, such as chairlifts and gondola lifts. Today, surface lifts are most often found on beginner slopes, small ski areas, and peripheral slopes. They are also often used to access glacier ski slopes because their supports can be anchored in glacier ice due to the lower forces and realigned due to glacier movement. The Platters
The Platters are an American vocal group formed in 1952. They are one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era. Their distinctive sound bridges the pre-rock Tin Pan Alley tradition and the new burgeoning genre. The act has gone through multiple line-ups over the years, earning it the branding tag "Many Voices One Name", with the most successful incarnation comprising lead tenor Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, founder and naming member Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor. A phonograph, later called a gramophone, and since the 1940s a record player, or more recently a turntable, is a device for the mechanical and analogue reproduction of sound.
