Piyabutr Saengkanokkul
Piyabutr Saengkanokkul (, , , born 23 October 1979) is a Thai academic, associate professor, left-wing activist, former politician, and Secretary-General of the Progressive Movement, a socio-political group. He served as a member of the Thai House of Representatives and was the first and only Secretary-General for the Future Forward Party, which he co-founded in 2018. Prior to his political career, Piyabutr was an associate professor at the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University. He has worked as a constitutional law professor for more than 16 years. In 2020, he was banned from national politics by the Constitutional Court. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit (, ; born 25 November 1978) is a Thai businessman, politician, and activist who served as the leader of the Future Forward Party from 2018 to 2020. From 2002 to 2018, he was the vice president of the Thai Summit Group, Thailand's largest auto parts manufacturer. In March 2018, Thanathorn co-founded the Future Forward Party and was unanimously elected as the party's leader during its first public meeting in May 2018. 2020–2021 Thai Protests
In Thailand, protests began in early 2020 with demonstrations against the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. They later expanded to include the unprecedented demands for reform of the Monarchy of Thailand, Thai monarchy. The protests were initially triggered by the dissolution of the Future Forward Party (FFP) in late February 2020 which was critical of Prayut, the changes to the Constitution of Thailand, Thai constitution in 2017, and the country's political landscape that it gave rise to. Progressive Movement (Thailand)
Progressive Movement () is a political group founded by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, and Pannika Wanich on March 18, 2020, after the dissolution of the Future Forward Party. The movement primarily operates outside the parliament, parallel to the work of the Move Forward Party and subsequently the People's Party. It was originally named Future Forward Group, but changed its name to avoid legal issues. The following year, it established a foundation named Progressive Movement Foundation.
