Pityrodia Iphthima
''Pityrodia iphthima'' is a flowering plant in the mint family Lamiaceae and is endemic to a small area in Western Australia. It is a small shrub with its branches, leaves and some of its flower parts densely covered with matted hairs. It has spike-like groups of up to forty flowers on the ends of the branches, the flowers tube-shaped, deep lilac and white, with brown spots inside. Description ''Pityrodia iphthima'' is a shrub which grows to a height of about and which has its branches densely covered with matted, greenish-white branched hairs. The leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along the branches and are long, wide and narrow egg-shaped. They are folded lengthwise in a V-shape with the upper surface more or less glabrous and the lower surface covered with star-like hairs, similar to those on the branches. Kelly Anne Shepherd
Kelly Anne Shepherd (born 1970) is an Australian botanist, who has published some 91 names. Career Shepherd earned a B.Sc. (Hon) in 1992 with a thesis entitled "Faecal Analysis of Mammalian Herbivores in the Perup Forest, Western Australia." and a Ph.D. ("Systematic Analysis of the Australian Salicornioideae (Chenopodiaceae)" in 2005, both from the University of Western Australia. From 2004 to 2005 she was a research scientist with the University of Western Australia and Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority. In 2006 she was a post doctoral researcher at the UK Millennium Seed Bank, working on seed dormancy on Australian species with undifferentiated species. From 2006 to 2009, she was a research scientist with the Western Australian Herbarium, where, since September 2009, she has been working as a senior research scientist. Robinson Ranges
The Robinson Ranges are a range of hills approximately north of Meekatharra in central Western Australia. The range is a unique physiographic feature located within the upper section of the Padbury group sequence in the Palaeoproterozoic basin. Robinson Range is situated on the boundary between the younger Gascoyne province to the north and the older Yilgarn block to the south. It forms the boundary between the upper catchments of the Murchison and Gascoyne Rivers. The former arises from the southern slopes, flowing around 780 kilometres west to the Indian Ocean. Iron ore and manganese tenements exist close to the range and are held under native title by the traditional owners, the Nharnuwangga Wajarri and Ngarlawangga peoples. ''Pityrodia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae and is endemic to Australia, most species occurring in Western Australia, a few in the Northern Territory and one in Queensland. Plants in this genus are shrubs with five petals joined to form a tube-shaped flower with four stamens of unequal lengths. Description Plants in the genus ''Pityrodia'' are evergreen shrubs with erect, usually cylindrical branches. The leaves are simple, net-veined and their bases partly wrap around the stem ( decurrent). The flowers may occur singly or in groups and exhibit left-right symmetry. Banded Iron Formation
Banded iron formations (also known as banded ironstone formations or BIFs) are distinctive units of sedimentary rock consisting of alternating layers of iron oxides and iron-poor chert. They can be up to several hundred meters in thickness and extend laterally for several hundred kilometers. Almost all of these formations are of Precambrian age and are thought to record the oxygenation of the Earth's oceans. Some of the Earth's oldest rock formations, which formed about ( Ma), are associated with banded iron formations. Banded iron formations are thought to have formed in sea water as the result of oxygen production by photosynthetic cyanobacteria.
