Pittsburgh Spirit
Pittsburgh Spirit were an indoor soccer team based in Pittsburgh and were one of the original six teams that played in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). The Spirit were founded in 1978, suspended operation for the 1980–81 season, then returned to the MISL until owner Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. folded the team on April 11, 1986. The seven seasons of play in Pittsburgh the Spirit average attendance for the regular season was 6,351. 1981–82 The Pittsburgh Spirit were reinstated into the MISL after suspending operations during for the 1980–81 season. Stan Terlecki led the team with 74 goals, second in the MISL to Steve Zungul's ( New York Arrows) 103 goals. Both Terlecki and Zungul were named MISL regular season MVP. Goaltender Krys Sobieski had the third-lowest goals-against average with a 4.20 GAA. The Spirit would face the third-place Baltimore Blast in the playoffs. Pittsburgh Civic Arena
The Civic Arena, formerly the Civic Auditorium and later Mellon Arena, was an arena located in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Civic Arena primarily served as the home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the city's National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, from 1967 to 2010. Constructed in 1961 for use by the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera (CLO), it was the brainchild of department store owner Edgar J. Kaufmann. It was the first retractable roof major-sports venue in the world, covering , constructed with nearly 3,000 tons of Pittsburgh steel and supported solely by a massive cantilevered arm on the exterior. Even though it was designed and engineered as a retractable-roof dome, the operating cost and repairs to the hydraulic jacks halted all full retractions after 1995, and the roof stayed permanently closed after 2001. Paul Child (soccer)
Paul Child (born December 8, 1952) is an English-American former soccer player who played as a forward, spending nine seasons in the North American Soccer League. He led the league in scoring in 1974 and was a two-time first team All-Star. He also earned two caps with the United States national team in 1973. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Club career England Born in Birmingham, England, Child signed with English First Division club Aston Villa when he turned fourteen in 1966. Erhardt Kapp
Erhardt Kapp (born June 16, 1959 in Romania) is a retired Romanian-American soccer defender and current business owner and soccer coach. He was also a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic soccer team and U.S. national team. Career Kapp as a youth played for the New York-based Kolping Soccer Club and Blau-Weiss Gottschee. Kapp attended the University of Connecticut from 1977 to 1980, where he played on the men’s soccer team and became one of the most decorated players ever at UConn under Joe Morrone. He was named a first team All American in 1981. He was also a second-team All American in 1980 and earned honorable mention in 1978. Zdzisław Ryszard Kapka (born 7 December 1954 in Kraków) is a retired Polish football player. He played mostly for Wisła Kraków and later briefly for Pittsburgh Spirit in the United States. Tommy Jenkins
Thomas Ernest Jenkins (born 2 December 1947) is an English retired footballer. He played professionally in two continents as a winger and is now a soccer coach in the United States. Early career Born in Bethnal Green, Jenkins played for East London Schoolboys before joining Leyton Orient in January 1966. He only made one first-team appearance before moving on to West Ham United in December 1967. He never broke into West Ham's first-team and moved to non-league football with Margate at the end of January 1968. He remained with Margate until July 1969 when he was transferred to Reading. Godfrey Ingram
Godfrey Patrick Ingram (born 26 October 1959) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a striker. Active in England, Wales and the United States, Ingram made over 440 career league appearances, and scored over 270 league goals. Career Born in Luton, Ingram began his career with the youth team of home town club Luton Town. He turned professional with Luton Town in 1977, and spent loan spells with the New York Cosmos and Northampton Town. David Hoggan (footballer)
David Matthew Hoggan (born 10 August 1961) is a Scottish retired professional footballer. He spent four seasons in England with the Bolton Wanderers before moving to the United States. He then spent nearly thirteen seasons in various indoor leagues and five with the Seattle Sounders. Ferdo "Fred" Grgurev (born September 14, 1951) is an American retired soccer forward who played professionally in the North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. He also earned 14 caps, scoring one goal, for the United States men's national soccer team. Grgurev was born in Sutomiscica, a village on the island of Ugljan in Croatia. Graham Fyfe (footballer Born 1951)
Graham Fyfe (18 August 1951 – 19 April 2022) was a Scottish professional footballer, best known for his time with Rangers, who played as a winger. Career Fyfe made his first appearance for Rangers at Ibrox in league match against Heart of Midlothian on 25 March 1969. He started on the right wing in a 3–2 home win. He went on to make 70 appearances for the club, including the first match against Ajax in the first ever European Super Cup. Fyfe also scored 23 goals which was not bad at all from a midfielder. He left to join Hibernian after seven seasons in Govan, but his stay in Edinburgh was short lived, as he moved on to Dumbarton the following year. Charlie Falzon is a Canadian retired soccer player who spent time in the North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. Drago Dumbovic
Drago Dumbovic (born February 5, 1960) is a Croatian former footballer and a head coach. He is noted for playing indoor soccer and the adoption of the nickname Drago in 1986. Career Dumbovic played in the Yugoslav First League in 1979 with Dinamo Zagreb.
