Pitt Town Bottoms
Pitt Town Bottoms is a historic town and suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Pitt Town Bottoms is located 58 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Hawkesbury. It is bounded in the west by the Hawkesbury River. History Pitt Town Bottoms was the location of the first settlements in the district. It was here, in 1794, that Lieutenant-Governor Francis Grose granted fifteen 30-acre (12 hectare) farms to free settlers. From here, fresh produce for the infant Sydney town was shipped down the Hawkesbury River. Lots 43 and 44 constitute the area that was bought by emancipee James Ruse in 1794. A radio-controlled aircraft (often called RC aircraft or RC plane) is a small flying machine that is radio controlled by an operator on the ground using a hand-held radio transmitter. James Ruse
James Ruse (9 August 17595 September 1837) was a Cornish farmer who, at age 23, was convicted of burglary and was sentenced to seven years' transportation. He arrived at Sydney Cove, New South Wales, on the First Fleet with 18 months of his sentence remaining. Ruse applied to Colony Governor Arthur Phillip for a land grant, stating that he had been bred for farming. Governor Phillip, desperate to make the colony self-sufficient, allocated Ruse an allotment at Rose Hill (now Rosehill, near Parramatta), where he proved himself industrious and showed that it was possible for a family to survive in New South Wales through farming. Francis Grose (Lieutenant-Governor)
Lieutenant-General Francis Grose (1758 – 8 May 1814) was a British soldier who commanded the New South Wales Corps. As Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales he governed the colony from 1792 until 1794, in which he established military rule, abolished civil courts, and made generous land-grants to his officers. He failed to stamp out the practice of paying wages in alcoholic spirits, with consequent public drunkenness and corruption. Although he helped to improve living conditions to some degree, he was not viewed as a successful administrator. Early life Francis Grose was born in 1758 in England. He was the eldest son of Francis Grose (the well-known English antiquary) and Catherine Jordan. Grose received a commission as an ensign in 1775, in the 52nd Foot and was promoted to lieutenant later that year.
