Pisiffik
Pisiffik A/S is a chain of Greenlandic stores. The company is the largest privately owned commercial company in Greenland, and is a subsidiary jointly owned by NorgesGruppen, the Norwegian grocery wholesaling group, the Danish investment company KFI, and Greenland Venture, a state-owned investment firm. History Pisiffik was first established in 1993 as KNI Pisiffik A/S, a subsidiary of Greenland's KNI conglomerate. Located in Greenland's larger towns, it was an experiment in running the stores without a government subsidy, while KNI Pilersuisoq continued to operate the more distant and less profitable outposts. The present Pisiffik A/S was spun off as a separate company in 2001 when Danish company Dagrofa bought Pisiffik as part of a privatization of parts of KNI. Dagrofa sold its shares to the current owners in 2015. In 2016, the headquarters were moved from Sisimiut to Nuuk. Sisimiut (), also known by its Danish name Holstensborg or Holsteinsborg, is the capital and largest city of the Qeqqata municipality, the second-largest city in Greenland, and the largest Arctic city in North America.The term 'city' is loosely used to describe any populated area in Greenland, given that the most populated place is Nuuk, the capital, with 19,872 inhabitants. Pilersuisoq is a chain of all-purpose general stores in Greenland, a major division of the Parliament of Greenland, state-owned KNI (Greenland Trade), KNI conglomerate. Like its parent company, it is based in Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg), the list of cities in Greenland, second-largest town in Greenland. Lars Behrendt is the administrative director of the company since 2008. Operations The chain operates 64 outlets in all small settlements in the country, as well as smaller towns which are not, except for Aasiaat, covered by the Pisiffik or Brugseni, Brugsen supermarket chains. The stores in remote settlements are supplied by Royal Arctic Line but the intervals between the shipments are long, with some settlements like Ittoqqortoormiit and Qaanaaq only served twice a year. Nuuk
Nuuk (; , formerly ) is the capital and most populous city of Greenland, an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the territory's largest cultural and economic center. It is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. Ilulissat, also known as Jacobshavn or Jakobshav, is the municipal seat and largest town of the Avannaata municipality in western Greenland, located approximately north of the Arctic Circle. Maniitsoq
Maniitsoq () or Sukkertoppen is a town on Maniitsoq Island, western Greenland located in the Qeqqata municipality. With 2,534 inhabitants , it is the sixth-largest town in Greenland. History Archaeological finds indicate that the area has been settled for more than 4,000 years. The modern town was founded as New or Nye-Maniitsoq in 1782 by Danish colonists relocating from the original Sukkertoppen, a trading post founded in 1755 at the site of present-day Kangaamiut. In time, the original name was taken up again. In the 19th century, the town served as a major trading post for the Royal Greenland Trading Department's trade in reindeer hides.
