Pipera
Pipera village is a neighborhood in Voluntari, Ilfov County, at the northern edge of the city of Bucharest, Romania. Development Until 1995, Pipera was an ordinary village. After that, an "El Dorado" of land transactions began. Plots of land that were US$1/m2 reached in 2005 the US$250/m2. In this time, more than 1,400 houses were built there, transforming Pipera in one of the most expensive residential areas. Between 2002 and 2011, in just ten years, the surface of the residential area doubled in size. The residential area expanding quickly and faster than the street network created many problems and concerns, such as urban planning, traffic control, water supply and electrical supply. A shopping park was also built, initially as a Carrefour and Bricostore, and later developed into a Metro, a Selgross Cash & Carry, an IKEA and, most importantly, Băneasa Shopping City. Pipera Airport
Bucharest Pipera Airfield was located in the Pipera neighborhood of Bucharest, Romania, at the northern edge of the city, right next to the town of Voluntari, Ilfov County. The airport no longer exists. A small military base, which also hosts the , remains in the location where the airport used to be. History The airfield was built in the interwar period. The first direct flight from Paris to Bucharest was done by the French–Romanian airline company CIDNA/CFRNA, with a plane piloted by Albert Louis Deullin, who landed at Pipera Airport in October 1921. During World War II, Pipera Airport was the main military airport in the Bucharest area. Some units of the Romanian Air Force units were flying IAR 80 planes (built in Brașov), while a unit under the command of Mihail Romanescu-Leu was flying Messerschmitt Bf 109 planes from there. Pipera Metro Station
Pipera is a metro station in Bucharest, located in the Pipera district. Opened on 24 October 1987 as part of the M2 extension from Piața Unirii, it is the northern terminus of the line. The initial scope of the station was to serve the large Pipera industrial estate. Since the end of industry in Romania however, the station is now used by the new business and residential estates established here. RATB tram lines 16 and 36 stop outside the station building. Night bus N125 also stops here. Layout The station has two side platforms. Northbound trains reverse in the sidings to the east of the station which can be seen from the platforms. To make room for them, southbound trains leave as northbound trains arrive. Tunnel walls, as seen from the platforms, describe the life on Romanian pepper farmers, as depicted in the works of orthodox-traditionalist writer Gheorghe Pascovici. Bucharest Metro Line M2
M2 () is one of the five lines of metro of the Bucharest Metro. The M2 Line runs from Pipera to Berceni, thus linking the north to the south of the city. The line is the busiest on the system, passing through a multitude of neighbourhoods, and also the only line to serve the centre of the city. History The line was built during the 1980s when the industrial development in Romania was in full swing. A north-south metro line was crucial, seeing as other methods of public transport were very crowded and cars were very rare. As such the construction of this line was prioritised over others such as the M4, which was only completed recently. The building of the M2 line led to the removal in 1987 of the trolleybus lines linking Berceni to Băneasa; those lines, put in place in 1962, were made obsolete by the opening of the metro, according to the city planners at the time. Voluntari () is a town in Ilfov County, Muntenia, Romania. It is located at a distance of 1 km from the northern border of Bucharest (on the DN2 road towards Urziceni) and is thus frequently viewed as a suburb of Bucharest. The population is 42,944 inhabitants according to the 2011 census, with an ethnic composition, among those for whom data are available, of 94.8% Romanians, 1.3% Romani, 0.9% Chinese, 0.5% Turks and 2.5% of other ethnic groups. The low price of land, the proximity to Bucharest, and the easy and reliable access to both the railway network and the road network have allowed a steady development of industrial and commercial facilities, especially in the light industry and import/export commerce. Ilfov () is the county that surrounds Bucharest, the capital of Romania. It used to be largely rural, but, after the fall of Communism, many of the county's villages and communes developed into high-income commuter towns, which act like suburbs or satellites of Bucharest. El Dorado
El Dorado (, ; Spanish for "the golden"), originally ''El Hombre Dorado'' ("The Golden Man") or ''El Rey Dorado'' ("The Golden King"), was the term used by the Spanish in the 16th century to describe a mythical tribal chief (''zipa'') or king of the Muisca people, an indigenous people of the Altiplano Cundiboyacense of Colombia, who as an initiation rite, covered himself with gold dust and submerged in Lake Guatavita.
