The Pinnaroo Cemetery and Crematorium is a cemetery and crematorium located at Graham Road, Bridgeman Downs, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is operated by the City of Brisbane. History The cemetery opened in 1962 and the crematorium, chapel and function room opened in 2002. Burial and cremation options Unlike many cemeteries in Brisbane, Pinnaroo is still open with new burial sites available. The cemetery offers lawn and lawn beam memorials, but not traditional headstones. Ashes can be placed in niches, or buried or scattered in gardens. Pinnaroo, South Australia
Pinnaroo is a town in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, near the border with Victoria, 243 km east of Adelaide. Pinnaroo is on the north side of the Mallee Highway, and on the railway line between Tailem Bend and Ouyen. The roadhouse on the highway at Pinnaroo is the first "food and leg-stretch" stop on the bus route from Adelaide to Sydney. At the 2016 census, the locality of Pinnaroo had a population of 712 of which 547 lived in and around its town centre. History The town's name is derived from a word for "big man" in a local Aboriginal language. The railway arrived in the area in 1906. There had not been any significant development in the area before that, as the remoteness and difficulty of getting supplies in and produce out had made it uneconomic to farm before that. The District Council of Lameroo was a local government area in South Australia from 1908 until 1997. For the first eleven years of the council's history it was known as District Council of Pinnaroo, not to be confused with its sister, the District Council of Pinnaroo (1913–1997) which was initially called Pinnaroo East council and also based in the town of Lameroo until 1919. Lameroo and Pinnaroo councils were amalgamated in 1997 to create the District Council of Southern Mallee. History The District Council of Pinnaroo was established 1908 and was based in Lameroo. It governed both the towns of Lameroo and Pinnaroo and their surroundings. In 1913, the council split, with the District Council of Pinnaroo continuing govern the Lameroo township's west and the new District Council of Pinnaroo East governing the town's east as well as Pinnaroo. Lake Pinaroo lies in Sturt National Park in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia. On 17 March 1996 the lake was recognised as a wetland of international importance by designation (RS799) under the Ramsar Convention. Description Pinaroo is an ephemeral lake in the arid north-western corner of New South Wales (NSW) near Cameron Corner. It forms the largest terminal basin within the NSW part of the Simpson– Strzelecki Dunefields bioregion. It is subject to erratic flood events interspersed with extended dry periods; once full, it may take up to six years to dry out. The lake filled in March 2021 as a result of the weather system associated with the 2021 Eastern Australian floods with 100mm of rain falling near the lake itself, having been dry for 10 years.
