History Pineview was most likely named for the landscape and may have begun in the early 20th century. The 1936 county highway map showed several farms in Pineview. It was served by a cemetery and church in the mid-1990s. Only 10 people lived here in 2000. Geography Pineview is located near the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 1647 and 2455, southeast of Winnsboro in the northeastern corner of Wood County. Wood County, Texas
Wood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 44,843. Its county seat is Quitman. The county was named for George T. Wood, governor of Texas from 1847 to 1849. History The first documented European exploration of what is now Wood County took place in the late 18th century, when Pedro Vial, was sent on expeditions by the Spanish governor of Texas. After marching all the way to Santa Fe in 1787, he headed east to Natchitoches. The following year, he passed through today's Wood County on his way back to San Antonio. Some archeological evidence suggests that a French trading post stood along Mill Race Creek in the early 1700s near the site of the modern town of Hainsville. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and location information about more than two million physical and cultural features, encompassing the United States and its territories; the Compact of Free Association, associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau; and Antarctica. It was founded in Austin, Texas, United States, on March 2, 1897. In November 2008, the TSHA moved its offices from Austin to the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. In 2015, the offices were relocated again to the University of Texas at Austin. George Pierce Garrison, chair of the University of Texas history department, led the organizational meeting establishing the association on March 2, 1893. In addition to Pittsburg, the district serves the town of Rocky Mound; both are located in Camp County, and the district includes all of that county with the exception of a very small area that lies in the Gilmer Independent School District.
