The Pine Mountain Range is a long ridge in Meriwether County, Georgia, Harris County, Georgia, and Talbot County, Georgia. The highest altitudes in all three of these west Georgia counties can be found along the range. The Pine Mountain Range is part of a larger geological feature known as the Pine Mountain terrane, which extends into eastern Alabama. The ridge in Georgia exceeds in elevation for a distance of about . These are the highest elevations at so southerly a latitude in the eastern half of the continental United States. Pine Mountain is a town in Harris and Meriwether counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,304, up from 1,141 at the 2000 census. The Harris County portion of Pine Mountain is part of the Columbus, GA- AL Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the small portion that extends into Meriwether County is part of the Atlanta- Sandy Springs-Roswell Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The town began in 1882 when the railroad spread to Pine Mountain from Columbus, and until 1958, the community was known as "Chipley". Sprewell Bluff Park, formerly Sprewell Bluff State Park, is a 1,372 acre (5.55 km2) Upson County, Georgia , park located between Roland and Crest. The park's location on the Flint River makes it a great place for swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and whitewater rafting. The park also features a three-mile walking trail that winds along the bank of the river and up rocky bluffs, offering exquisite views of the park below. This park was part of The Heritage Trust Commission established by Governor Jimmy Carter in 1972. Manchester, Georgia
Manchester is a town in Meriwether and Talbot Counties in the U.S. state of Georgia, although primarily in Meriwether. The population was 4,230 at the 2010 census. CSX Transportation runs a railroad yard in Manchester. History Manchester was founded in 1907, when the Atlanta, Birmingham and Atlantic Railway was extended northward to that point; it was merged into the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1946. From Manchester the railroad diverged, with one line going to Atlanta and another to Birmingham. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Manchester as a city in 1909. Warm Springs is a city in Meriwether County, Georgia, United States. The population was 425 at the 2010 census. History Warm Springs, originally named Bullochville (after the Bulloch family, which began after Stephen Bullock moved to Meriwether County in 1806 from Edgecombe County, North Carolina), first came to prominence in the 19th century as a spa town, because of its mineral springs which flow constantly at nearly 90 °F (32 °C). Residents of Georgia, particularly Savannah, began spending vacations at Bullochville in the late 18th century as a way to escape yellow fever, finding the number of warm springs in the vicinity of Bullochville very attractive.
