Pinder Prize
John Pinder (January 1945 26 May 2015) was a New Zealand-born Australian comedy producer, promoter, and festival director based in Melbourne for most of his career. He produced band performances and ran live venues, being especially known for the comedy theatre cafes Flying Trapeze and The Last Laugh. He also co-founded the contemporary circus company Circus Oz in 1977, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 1987. Early life and education John Pinder was born in January 1945 in New Zealand, and spent his formative years in Dunedin, where there was much theatre and other live shows. His parents would take him to the theatre and musicals, and the whole family tuned in to ''The Goon Show'' on radio on Sunday nights. The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band
The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band, also known as Soapbox Circus or Matchbox, were an Australian jug band formed in 1969. It centred on Mic Conway ("Captain Matchbox") on lead vocals, washboard and ukulele; and his brother, Jim Conway, on harmonica, kazoo and vocals. They issued four studio albums, ''Smoke Dreams'' (June 1973), '' Wangaratta Wahine'' (late 1974), ''Australia'' (November 1975) and ''Slightly Troppo'' (1978), before they disbanded in September 1980. The Conway brothers reformed the group in 2010 as Captain Matchbox Reignited and disbanded again two years later. A jug band is a musical band, band employing a jug (instrument), jug player and a mix of conventional and homemade instruments. Australian Performing Group
The Australian Performing Group (APG) was a Melbourne-based experimental theatre repertory ensemble formed in an official capacity in 1970 from the La Mama Theatre (Melbourne), La Mama theatre group. Created to address a dissatisfaction with Australia's theatrical climate, the APG focused primarily on producing new works by then-emerging Australian writers such as Barry Oakley, Jack Hibberd, Kris Hemensley, Bill Garner, John Romeril, Steve J. Spears and David Williamson. Fitzroy, Victoria
Fitzroy is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, northeast of the Melbourne central business district, located within the City of Yarra Local government areas of Victoria, local government area. Spectrum (band)
Spectrum are an Australian progressive rock band which formed in April 1969 and broke up in April 1973. The original line-up was Mark Kennedy on drums, Lee Neale on organ (ex-Nineteen87), Bill Putt on bass guitar (ex-Lost Souls), and Mike Rudd on guitar and lead vocals (ex- Chants R&B, The Party Machine). In August 1970 Kennedy was replaced by Ray Arnott on drums. These members also performed under the alter ego, Indelible Murtceps, from 1971 to 1973. Spectrum had a number-one hit, " I'll Be Gone" (January 1971), on the ''Go-Set'' National Top 60 singles chart. After Spectrum and Indelible Murtceps disbanded, Putt and Rudd formed Ariel. Daddy Cool (band)
Daddy Cool is an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1970 with the original line-up of Wayne Duncan (bass guitar, vocals), Ross Hannaford (lead guitar, bass, vocals), Ross Wilson (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica) and Gary Young (drums, vocals). Their debut single " Eagle Rock" was released in May 1971 and stayed at number 1 on the Australian singles chart for ten weeks. NOTE: Used for Australian Singles and Albums charting from 1970 until ARIA created their own charts in mid-1988. Their debut, July 1971's LP '' Daddy Who? Michael Glenn Chugg (born 15 June 1947) is an Australian entrepreneur, businessman and concert tour promoter. As a promoter and manager he was a founder of Frontier Touring Company (1979–99) and Michael Chugg Entertainment (2000–present). In June 1998, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.
