Pillorian
Pillorian was an American metal band from Portland, Oregon. It was formed in 2016 by John Haughm, Trevor Matthews, and Stephen Parker. Pillorian released their only full-length album, ''Obsidian Arc'', on March 10, 2017. History Pillorian was formed early in the summer of 2016 with the stated goal of " reatinga unique, sinister, and twisted style of dark/black metal". The word "pillorian" means "of or relating to scorn and condemnation". The band formed shortly after the breakup of Haughm's previous band, Agalloch. On February 10, 2017 Pillorian released their first single, "A Stygian Pyre". NPR described the titular song as "feral" and "bestial", but with "enormous" production values. One month later, on March 10, 2017 Pillorian released their first full studio album, ''Obsidian Arc''. The album received mixed to positive reviews. John Haughm
John Haughm (born September 14, 1975) is a musician and artist from the United States. He is most known for being the founder, guitarist, and vocalist of the band Agalloch, and later Pillorian. He is also a designer who has created packaging and merchandise for several record labels and bands, including every project in which he has performed. From 2008 to 2018 he was the co-owner, creative director, and curator of the Dämmerung Arthouse. Early life John Haughm was born in Ellensburg, Washington, and grew up in Butte, Montana, where he played in several metal bands as a teenager, some of which were with future Agalloch bassist Jason William Walton. Agalloch () was an American extreme metal band from Portland, Oregon. Formed in 1995 by frontman John Haughm, they released five full-length albums, four EPs, two singles, one split single, two demos, four compilation albums and one live video album. They announced their disbandment in May 2016. History Formation and early years (1995–1997) Named after the resinous wood of the agarwood (Aquilaria agallocha), Agalloch began as the creation of Haughm and keyboardist Shane Breyer. In early 1996, the duo began composing material. Guitarist Don Anderson joined the band that summer to further refine the songs, which were recorded that autumn for release as the band's first demo tape, From Which of This Oak. The site features reviews, interviews, information on latest metal releases and blog-like posts from the writers, most notably Vince Neilstein and Axl Rosenberg.
