Pietro Nardini
Pietro Nardini (April 12, 1722 – May 7, 1793) was an Italian composer and violinist, a transitional musician who worked in both the Baroque and Classical era traditions. Life Nardini was born in Livorno and studied music at Livorno, later becoming a pupil of Giuseppe Tartini. He moved to Germany where he joined the court chapel in Stuttgart, becoming conductor in 1762. However, he abandoned his duties there in 1765 to become Kapellmeister, in 1770, to the Grand Duke of Tuscany in Florence. Nardini is mentioned in English writer Hester Lynch Piozzi's ''Observations and Reflections Made in the Course of a Journey Through France, Italy, and Germany'' (1789) as playing a solo at a concert Mrs Piozzi and her husband, Gabriele Piozzi, gave in Florence in July 1785. Though Nardini was not a prolific composer, his works are known for their melodious tunes and usefulness in technical studies. August Wenzinger
August Wenzinger (1905–1996) was a prominent cellist, viol player, conductor, teacher, and music scholar from Basel, Switzerland. He was a pioneer of historically informed performance, both as a master of the viola da gamba and as a conductor of Baroque orchestral music and operas. Wenzinger received his basic musical training at the Basel Conservatory, then went on to study cello with Paul Grümmer and music theory with Philipp Jarnach at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. He then took private cello lessons with Emanuel Feuermann in Berlin. Wenzinger served as first cellist in the Bremen City Orchestra (1929–1934) and the Basel Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft (1936–1970). By 1925 Wenzinger had mastered the viola da gamba, an instrument then usually considered obsolete. Eduard Melkus (born 1 September 1928 in Baden bei Wien) is an Austrian violinist and violist.''International Who's Who in Classical Music 2003'' Following the Second World War, Melkus dedicated himself to the exploration of historically informed performance. He was a member of the 1949 Vienna viola da gamba quartet, the select group of musicians that included Alice and Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the harpsichordist Gustav Leonhardt who started the Early Music movement. He performed and recorded more than 200 works from the mid 17th through the late 18th centuries with his ensemble ''Capella Academica Wien'', or the French harpsichordist Huguette Dreyfus, and in his time, tapped a worldwide audience.
