Pierre Cullaz
Pierre Cullaz (21 July 1935 – 1 January 2014) was a French jazz guitarist and cellist. Pierre Cullaz was the son of Maurice Cullaz, a jazz writer, and the older brother of Alby Cullaz. After he learned piano and cello in 1949, he moved to guitar as his main instrument. In 1955, he started his professional career with Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, and Hal Singer. Two years later he worked with Michel Hausser, then Sarah Vaughan, Claude Bolling and Stéphane Grappelli. After military service, he became a studio musician. He worked with Martial Solal and Eddy Louiss and beginning in 1965 was a member of the band Guitars Unlimited. He formed Guitars Unlimited with Victor Apicella, Raymond Gimenez, Francis Lemageur, and Tony Rallo. The band recorded for Barclay. Other collaborators included Elvin Jones, Andre Hodeir, Ivan Jullien, Guy Lafitte. Cullaz also taught guitar and wrote a method book. Barclay (record Label)
Barclay is a French record company and label founded by Eddie Barclay in 1953. Eddie Barclay was a bandleader, pianist, producer, and nightclub owner. With his wife, Nicole, who was the vocalist in his band, he started Barclay. The catalogue included the work of Stéphane Grappelli, Lionel Hampton, and Rhoda Scott. In 1978, 40 % of the label was sold to Polygram. Jazz issues ceased in 1983. Barclay's catalogue includes Hugues Aufray, Charles Aznavour, Alain Bashung, Jacques Brel, Les Chaussettes Noires, Dalida, Jean Ferrat, Léo Ferré, Nino Ferrer, Jimi Hendrix, Patrick Juvet, Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti, Danielle Licari, Mireille Mathieu, Mika, Eddy Mitchell, Modjo, Noir Désir, Paradis, Henri Salvador, Emilie Simon, Rachid Taha, the Wild Magnolias and the label is also affiliated with convicted murderer Bertrand Cantat. Claude Nougaro
Claude Nougaro (, oc, Claudi Nogaròu; 9 September 1929 – 4 March 2004) was a French songwriter and singer. Life and career Claude Nougaro was born in Toulouse to a respected French opera singer, Pierre Nougaro, and a piano teacher, Liette Tellini. His maternal grandparents were Italian; his grandfather was born in Livorno, Tuscany and his grandmother in San Damiano d'Asti, Piedmont. He was raised by his grandparents in Toulouse where he heard Glenn Miller, Édith Piaf and Louis Armstrong (among others) on the radio. In 1947 he failed his baccalaureat and began a career in journalism, writing for various journals including ''Le Journal des Curistes'' at Vichy and ''L'Echo d'Alger''. At the same time he wrote songs for Marcel Amont ("Le barbier de Belleville", "Le balayeur du roi") and Philippe Clay ("Joseph", "La sentinelle").
