''Pictures – 40 Years of Hits'' is a compilation album by the British rock band Status Quo, and was released on 10 November 2008. The album was available as a standard double CD, a double CD+DVD deluxe edition, and the four-CD earbook boxset, containing the single versions of all 76 Status Quo singles (including five singles in collaboration with other acts) from 1968 to 2008 inclusive, housed in a box that included a 120-page booklet and reproduction prints of fifty versions of Status Quo single and album covers recreated by famous musicians and celebrities. The original artwork was later auctioned off to raise money for the Prince's Trust, a charity Status Quo has long supported. Status Quo (band)
Status Quo are a British rock band. The group originated in London and was founded in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still schoolboys. After a number of name and lineup changes, which included the introduction of John Coghlan (drummer), John Coghlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. As of 2022, the group have been active for 60 consecutive years (despite announcing a breakup in 1984, they played Live Aid the following year and resumed normal activities in 1986). They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK – more than any other band – including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (their first charting song), "Caroline (Status Quo song), Caroline" (their first top 5 hit), and "Down Down" (their only No. 1 hit). "Living on an Island" is a single released by the British rock band Status Quo in 1979. It was included on the album '' Whatever You Want'' and featured Rick Parfitt on lead vocals. Lyrically, the song is about band member Rick Parfitt having to take a "tax year" outside of the United Kingdom and the boredom and isolation he felt living on the Isle of Jersey; however he is also excited about a pending visit from a friend ("Cruxie") who is arriving shortly. -The first verse deals with fame and the public's perception v. the reality and the resulting depression, due to loneliness. -The second verse is more optimistic, with Parfitt, not sounding depressed, but bored. -The third verse however, is positive; talking about the fun the two men are currently having. Rockin' All Over The World
"Rockin' All Over the World" is a rock song written by John Fogerty, formerly of Creedence Clearwater Revival. It made its debut on Fogerty's second solo album in 1975. It was also released as a single, spending six weeks in the US top 40, peaking at #27. Status Quo recorded their own, heavier arrangement of Fogerty's song for their 1977 album '' Rockin' All Over the World''. "Rain" is a single from British rock music, rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo's album ''Blue for You''. It was written by Rick Parfitt. "Rain" was intended for ''Blue for Yous predecessor ''On the Level'' – but, at the time of the recording sessions, Parfitt had not completed the song and so it was held over. Roll Over Lay Down
"Roll Over Lay Down" is a song by the British Rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo that was first released on the album ''Hello! (album), Hello!'' in 1973. It was later released as the A-side of a live EP, ''Quo Live'' in 1975. It was released to celebrate the band's 13th anniversary. All of the tracks were recorded live and were taken from concerts at The Kursaal, Southend on 1 March 1975 and Trentham Gardens in Stoke the following night. The band released the EP against the advice of many people who predicted such a release would be a failure. It featured a picture sleeve that contained sleeve notes by BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. The centre of each copy of the record was specially moulded to feature the well known 'four heads' design (drawn by Dave Field) from the sleeve of the ''Quo (Status Quo album), Quo'' album. "Down Down" is a song by English rock band Status Quo, released by Vertigo Records on 29 November 1974. Written by Francis Rossi and Bob Young and produced by Status Quo, "Down Down" was Status Quo's only number one single on the UK Singles Chart. The single spent a week at the top of the chart in January 1975. Both "Down Down" and its B-side "Nightride" were taken from the album '' On the Level'' (1975), which had yet to be released. The album version lasts 5 minutes and 24 seconds, whilst the single version is 3 minutes and 49 seconds. Song information "Down Down" was inspired by T. Rex's debut single " Debora". Originally it was titled "Get Down", but this was changed before release, possibly to avoid confusion with the Gilbert O'Sullivan song of the same name.
