"Mystery Song" is a single released by the British rock music, rock band Status Quo (band), Status Quo in 1976. It was included on the album ''Blue for You''. The song concerns a young man's encounter with a prostitute. The A-side and B-side, B-side was "Drifting Away", from the band's 1974 album ''Quo (Status Quo album), Quo''. The song was reprised, in 2014, for the band's thirty-first studio album ''Aquostic – Stripped Bare''. It was featured in the ninety-minute launch performance of the album at London's ''Roundhouse (venue), Roundhouse'' on 22 October, the concert being recorded and broadcast live by BBC Radio 2 as part of their ''In Concert'' series. Status Quo (band)
Status Quo are a British rock band. The group originated in London and was founded in 1962 by Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster while they were still schoolboys. After a number of name and lineup changes, which included the introduction of John Coghlan (drummer), John Coghlan in 1963 and Rick Parfitt in 1967, the band became The Status Quo in 1967 and Status Quo in 1969. As of 2022, the group have been active for 60 consecutive years (despite announcing a breakup in 1984, they played Live Aid the following year and resumed normal activities in 1986). They have had over 60 chart hits in the UK – more than any other band – including "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (their first charting song), "Caroline (Status Quo song), Caroline" (their first top 5 hit), and "Down Down" (their only No. 1 hit). Roundhouse (venue)
The Roundhouse is a performing arts and concert venue at the Grade II* listed former Railway roundhouse, railway engine shed in Chalk Farm, London, England. The building was erected in 1846–1847 by the London & North Western Railway as a Railway roundhouse, roundhouse, a circular building containing a railway turntable, but was used for that purpose for only about a decade. After being used as a warehouse for a number of years, the building fell into disuse just before World War II. It was first made a listed building in 1954. It reopened after 25 years, in 1964, as a performing arts venue, when the playwright Arnold Wesker established the Centre 42 Theatre Company and adapted the building as a theatre. ''Aquostic – Stripped Bare'' is the thirty-first studio album by English rock band Status Quo, first released on 17 October 2014. Produced by Mike Paxman, this is the band's first completely acoustic album and the first recorded with drummer Leon Cave. Its cover features a photograph by Canadian singer Bryan Adams. ''Quo'' is the seventh studio album by the English rock band Status Quo. Issued in May 1974, it reached #2 in the UK. Like its predecessor '' Hello!'', it consisted entirely of songs written or co-written by the group. The album features guest musicians Bob Young and Tom Parker, who played harmonica and piano respectively on "Break the Rules". The album is regarded as one of their heaviest, possibly due to the influence of bassist Alan Lancaster, who co-wrote six of the eight tracks. "When we wrote 'Drifting Away'," recalled Rick Parfitt, "it sounded so, so heavy. That rhythm was constant, right in your face. It was just such a turn-on. That's where my head was at back then. ''Blue for You'' is the ninth studio album by English rock band Status Quo. It was released in March 1976, and is the last album until 1980's '' Just Supposin''' that the band produced themselves. Rick Parfitt's "Rain", the first single from the album, reached number 7 in the UK Singles Chart after its release in February 1976. Its B-side was the non-album track "You Lost the Love", written by Francis Rossi and Bob Young. The album was released the following month. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number 1 and stayed there for three weeks, making it one of their most successful albums.
