Alice Day
Jacqueline Alice Irene Newlin (November 7, 1906 – May 25, 1995), professionally known as Alice Day, was an American film actress who began her career as one of the Sennett Bathing Beauties. Early years Day was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Frank and Irene Newlin, and attended high school in Venice, California, where she was discovered. She was the elder sister of actress Marceline Day. Career Day appeared in 70 movies between 1923 and 1932. In 1929, she starred with Edward Buzzell in a film version of the George M. Cohan stage musical ''Little Johnny Jones'', the title better known in revised excerpts staged in the Cohan biopic ''Yankee Doodle Dandy''. There are no known copies of the Buzzell-Day films. Day also co-starred with Ted Lewis in the musical '' Is Everybody Happy?'' (1929) which is also considered a lost film. Lewis selected her out of approximately 200 candidates for the role. Tiny Ward
Roscoe Samuel "Tiny" Ward (January 2, 1893 – September 12, 1956) was an American actor. He occasionally was billed as Jack "Tiny" Ward. Due to his appearance in several "classics" he is a fairly well-known face in film history. Early life He was born on January 2, 1893, in Indian Point near Abingdon, Illinois the son of Roscoe E. Ward (1855-1925). He was exceptionally tall (6'7") earning him the sarcastic nickname "Tiny". Career In the 1920s he worked primarily in Mack Sennett comedies, frequently under the direction of Harry Edwards and often supporting Harry Langdon. He also worked with Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy and Lon Chaney. He was popular and although never achieving a lead role, he was a frequent choice as either a burly policeman or tough guy. Thelma Hill (born Thelma Hillerman; December 12, 1906 – May 11, 1938) was an American silent screen comedian and one of the Sennett Bathing Beauties. Early life Hill was born Thelma Hillerman on December 12, 1906, in Emporia, Kansas. Her parents were married in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1899. They relocated to Emporia, Kansas, before Thelma was born and divorced when she was a baby. Her mother Augusta "Gussie" Hillerman was given full custody after alleging her father, railroad worker Clifford Hillerman, had abandoned them for another woman. Clifford Hillerman died in 1914 after suffering an accident at work. Career Before she became a Mack Sennett bathing beauty, Hill worked as an artist's model in New York. Eugenia Gilbert (November 18, 1902 – December 9, 1978) was an American film actress of the silent era. She appeared as a leading lady in a number of westerns. In at least three films, she was billed as Eugenie Gilbert. Biography Gilbert was the daughter of William B. Knapp and Nellie Eugenia (Gilbert) Knapp. Her birth name was Genevieve May Knapp. She attended schools in South Orange, New Jersey, and New York City and the Marlborough School in Los Angeles. She won 14 beauty contests, one of which was a national contest sponsored by Rudolph Valentino, which led him to consider her "the most beautiful girl in America." In 1924, Gilbert had her first role as leading lady in a film, after having smaller parts in westerns and comedies. Andrew Allan Clyde (March 25, 1892 – May 18, 1967), was a Scottish-born American film and television actor whose career spanned some 45 years. In 1921 he broke into silent films as a Mack Sennett comic, debuting in ''On a Summer Day''. He was the fifth of six children of theatrical actor, producer and Stage management, manager John Clyde.
