Pic-Nic
Pic-Nic was a Spanish teenage folk-pop and sunshine pop band formed in Barcelona in the mid-to-late 1960s, composed of lead singer Jeanette, guitarists Toti Soler and Al Cárdenas, drummer Jordi Barangé and bassist Isidoro "Doro" de Montaberry. Although keyboardist Jordi Sabatés is often mentioned as a member of the band, he does not appear on any of the group's releases, having joined after their only published recording sessions had taken place. Pic-Nic was the successor to the short-lived group Brenner's Folk, originally founded by German-Venezuelan brothers Haakon and Vytas Brenner together with Soler, Barangé and Jeanette, an English girl who had recently moved to Spain after being raised in the United States. After releasing a four-song extended play for label Edigsa in 1966, the Brenner brothers left the band, being replaced by Cárdenas and de Montaberry. Jeanette (Spanish Singer)
Janette Anne Dimech (born 10 October 1951), known professionally as Jeanette, is a Spanish singer and songwriter. She rose to prominence as the lead singer of teenage folk-pop group Pic-Nic, which had a hit in 1968 with her song "Cállate, niña". Jeanette returned to music as a solo artist and experienced commercial success in 1971 with the hit single " Soy rebelde", which redefined her career as a romantic ballad artist and was a worldwide hit amongst Spanish-speaking countries and communities, eventually becoming a generational anthem. In 1976, Carlos Saura included Jeanette's 1974 song "Porque te vas" in his film ''Cría cuervos'', which propelled it to become a major hit and one of the most famous Spanish pop songs of all time. Toti Soler
Jordi Soler i Galí (born 7 June 1949), known by the stage name Toti Soler, is a Spanish guitarist, singer and composer, member of cult groups Pic-Nic in the 1960s and Om in the 1970s. He had a classical training with influences of blues, jazz and flamenco. His compositions are noted for their poetic, sensitive qualities and often use extracts from poetry. Early life and studies Jordi Soler i Galí was born on 7 June 1949 in Vilassar de Dalt, Barcelona. He trained at the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona from 1965 and the Spanish Guitar Centre in London from 1969. His blues influence was obtained from American blues musician Taj Mahal, whom he met in 1971, and his flamenco influence was obtained from Diego del Gastor during a trip to Andalucia in 1972. Soy Rebelde
"Soy rebelde" (English: "I am a rebel") is a Spanish pop ballad written by Manuel Alejandro and Ana Magdalena. It was released by British-born singer Jeanette in 1971, and was her debut solo single. It has been re-recorded by Jeanette in English, French, and Japanese, and has inspired cover versions in diverse genres from flamenco to punk rock and rap. Development Following the dissolution of her former band Pic-Nic in 1969, Jeanette remained with the Hispavox label and moved to Barcelona the next year. Songwriter Manuel Alejandro wrote the song for a Mexican singer, Sola, but offered it to Jeanette, who is half Spanish. Jeanette originally did not like the song; in an interview posted in ''Cha Cha Charming'' magazine, Jeanette said, "My style of music was folk music . . . but Hispavox wanted me to sing this romantic music that I could not relate to." Sunshine Pop
Sunshine pop (originally known as soft pop) is a subgenre of pop music that originated in Southern California in the mid-1960s. Rooted in easy listening and advertising jingles, sunshine pop acts combined nostalgic or anxious moods with "an appreciation for the beauty of the world". It largely consisted of lesser-known artists who imitated more popular groups such as the Mamas & the Papas and the 5th Dimension. While the Beach Boys are noted as prominent influences, the band's own music was rarely representative of the genre. Sunshine pop enjoyed mainstream success in the latter half of the decade, with many of its top 40 hits peaking in the spring and summer of 1967, especially just before the Summer of Love. Jordi Sabatés Navarro (Barcelona, Spain, 23 October 1948 – Barcelona, 10 January 2022) was a Spanish pianist, composer, and arranger. Biography In his youth, he was a member of the folk-rock band Pic-Nic. He later joined the progressive rock band Om. He composed also several film scores, mainly documentaries such as ''Bola de Nieve'' (2003). In 1971 he formed the group Jarka and in 1973 he began working with Toti Soler. Vytas Brenner (19 September 1946 – 18 March 2004) was a German-born Venezuelan musician, keyboardist, guitarist and composer. Biography He was born in Tübingen, Germany, but his family migrated to Venezuela in 1949 when he was 2 years old. His mother, Margarita Brenner, was an Opera singer. Brenner began his musical studies in Caracas at "Colegio Emil Friedman" school, a prestigious institution heavily oriented toward musical education. Content As a database, Lafonoteca covers a multitude of styles and genres, from pop, rock and hip-hop to traditional Spanish and world music styles such as flamenco and rumba. The Shadows
The Shadows (originally known as the Drifters) were an English instrumental rock group, who dominated the British popular music charts in the late 1950s and early 1960s, in the pre- Beatles era. They served as the backing band for Cliff Richard from 1958 to 1968, and have joined him for several reunion tours. The Shadows have had 69 UK chart singles from the 1950s to the 2000s, 35 credited to the Shadows and 34 to Cliff Richard and the Shadows.
