Phạm Tuân
Phạm Tuân ( born 14 February 1947) is a retired Vietnam People's Air Force, Vietnamese Air Force fighter pilot and Astronaut#Cosmonaut, cosmonaut. He became the first Vietnamese people, Vietnamese cosmonaut, and the first person of Asian origin to be in space when he launched aboard the Soyuz 37 mission as an Interkosmos research cosmonaut. He was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Early life and military career Phạm Tuân was born in 14 February 1947 in Kiến Xương, Thái Bình province in northern Vietnam. Initially a People's Army of Vietnam, Infantry soldier he was recruited into the Vietnam People's Air Force (VPAF) in 1965 as a radar mechanic student. Phạm (范) is the fourth most common Vietnamese name, Vietnamese family name. It may be rendered as ''Fan (surname), Fàn'' in Chinese or ''Beom/Pom/Pem'' (범) in Korean. Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (; NATO reporting name: Fresco) is a high-subsonic fighter aircraft produced in the Soviet Union from 1952 and was operated by air forces internationally. The MiG-17 was license-built in China as the Shenyang J-5 and Poland as the PZL-Mielec Lim-6. The MiG-17 is still being used by the North Korean air force in the present day and has seen combat in the Middle East and Asia. The MiG-17 was an advanced modification of the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15, MiG-15 aircraft produced by the Soviet Union during the Korean War. Production of the MiG-17 was too late for use in that conflict and was first used in the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis in 1958. Northern Vietnam or '' Tonkin'' () is one of three geographical regions in Vietnam. Interkosmos () was a Soviet space program, designed to help the Soviet Union's allies with Human spaceflight, crewed and Uncrewed spacecraft, uncrewed space missions. The program was formed in April 1967 in Moscow. All members of the program from USSR were given the Hero of the Soviet Union medal or the Order of Lenin.
