''Physics of Fluids'' is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal covering fluid dynamics, established by the American Institute of Physics in 1958, and is published by AIP Publishing. Fluid Dynamics Journals
In physics, a fluid is a liquid, gas, or other material that may continuously move and deform (''flow'') under an applied shear stress, or external force. They have zero shear modulus, or, in simpler terms, are substances which cannot resist any shear force applied to them. Although the term ''fluid'' generally includes both the liquid and gas phases, its definition varies among branches of science. Definitions of ''solid'' vary as well, and depending on field, some substances can have both fluid and solid properties. Non-Newtonian fluids like Silly Putty appear to behave similar to a solid when a sudden force is applied. Substances with a very high viscosity such as pitch appear to behave like a solid (see pitch drop experiment) as well. In particle physics, the concept is extended to include fluidic matters other than liquids or gases. Alan Jeffrey Giacomin
Alan Jeffrey Giacomin (born April 1, 1959, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada) is a professor of chemical engineering at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and cross-appointed in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, and of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy. He has been editor-in-chief of ''Physics of Fluids'' since 2016. He holds the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Rheology from the Canadian government's Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. Since 2017, Giacomin has been President of the Canadian Society of Rheology. Education Giacomin graduated from St. Thomas High School (Quebec) in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. He later went to Queen's University and completed a B.Sc. Honours in chemical engineering in 1981. He then completed a M.Sc. in chemical engineering in 1983 at Queen's University. Jeongbin John Kim (born 1947) is the Rockwell International Distinguished Professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, since 1993. He currently resides in Calabasas, California. Personal and early life Kim was born in South Korea. He received his B.S. degree at Seoul National University in 1970; his M.S. at Brown University in 1974; and his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1978. Andreas Acrivos
Andreas Acrivos (13 June 1928 – 17 February 2025) was a Greek-American physicist who was the Albert Einstein Professor of Science and Engineering at the City College of New York. He was also the director of the Benjamin Levich Institute for Physicochemical Hydrodynamics. Life and career Born in Athens, Greece, Acrivos moved to the United States to pursue an engineering education. He received a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1950; a master's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1951; and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1954, all in chemical engineering. François Frenkiel
François Naftali Frenkiel (Warsaw, 19 September 1910 – Rockville, Maryland, 9 July 1986) was a physicist and one of the founders of the American Institute of Physics (AIP) journal ''Physics of Fluids'' in 1958. He was the editor of ''Physics of Fluids'' from its establishment until 1981. François Frenkiel, received his undergraduate education in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Ghent, Belgium, and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Lille in France where he studied under the direction of Kampé de Fériet. Journals with higher impact factor values are considered more prestigious or important within their field.
