Phogat
The Phogat sisters are six sisters from Haryana, India, all of whom are wrestlers. In order of their birth, they are Geeta, Babita, Priyanka, Ritu, Vinesh, and Sangeeta. Geeta, Babita, Ritu, and Sangeeta are daughters of former wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat. Priyanka and Vinesh were brought up by Mahavir after their father (and Mahavir's younger brother), Rajpal Phogat, died when they were young. Mahavir trained all six of them in wrestling in their home village of Balali in Bhiwani district. Three of the Phogat sisters, Geeta, Babita, and Vinesh, are gold medalists in different weight categories at the Commonwealth Games, while Priyanka has won a silver medal at the Asian Championships. Vinesh Phogat
Vinesh Phogat (; born 25 August 1994) is an Indian politician and former wrestler, who is a current member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Haryana. She won the 2024 assembly election from Julana constituency representing the Indian National Congress. Previously as a wrestler, she was a former Asian Champion and multiple-gold medalist of Commonwealth Games, with her wins in 2014, 2018, and 2022. In her wrestling career, Phogat achieved a milestone when she won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games and became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. She has also won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championships. Babita Kumari
Babita Kumari Phogat (born 20 November 1989) is a former Indian professional wrestler and a politician from the state of Haryana. She is a multiple Commonwealth Games medalist, winning the gold medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games, and silver medals at 2010 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Commonwealth Games. When she won the 2014 Commonwealth gold medal, she became the second Indian women wrestler to win a Commonwealth gold after her sister Geeta Phogat, who had won it in 2010. Babita participated in the Rio 2016 Olympics in the 53 Kg women's wrestling, though she could not make it to the podium. Earlier, she had won a bronze medal at the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championships tournament in New Delhi, India; and another bronze at the 2012 World Wrestling Championships. Mahavir Singh Phogat
Mahavir Singh Phogat is an Indian Amateur wrestling, amateur wrestler, senior Olympics coach and politician. He is the trainer and father of the Phogat sisters. The Hindi biographical film ''Dangal (2016 film), Dangal'' is loosely based on his life. Mahavir Singh Phogat was awarded the Dronacharya Award by the Government of India in 2016. Ritu Phogat
Ritu Kumari Phogat (born 2 May 1994) is an Indian mixed martial artist who competed in the Atomweight division of ONE Championship. She is also a female wrestler who won a gold medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship. Early and personal life Ritu is the third daughter of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and started training under her father at the age of eight. Geeta Phogat (born 15 December 1988) is a freestyle wrestler who won India's first-ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Sakshi Malik Kadian (born 3 September 1992) is a former Indian freestyle wrestler. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. Chandgi Ram Kaliraman (9 November 1937 – 29 June 2010), often referred to as Master Chandgi Ram, was a freestyle wrestler from India. He won gold medal in the 1970 Asian Games and represented India in the 1972 Summer Olympics. Along with amateur wrestling, he was very active in the traditional Indian wrestling, where he had won all major titles, including Hind Kesari, ''Bharat Kesari'', ''Bharat Bhim'', ''Rustom-e-Hind'' and ''Maha Bharat Kesari''. He is remembered for the work that he has done for the introduction, acceptance and popularisation of the women's wrestling in India.
