Philips VG 8000
The Philips VG-8000, released in 1983, was the first Philips MSX computer, although it was not 100% compliant with the standard (as it lacked a Centronics printer port, expansion bus, or audio out, and had a custom video out). The VG-8000 was built in France, at Le Mans by Radiotechnique. It was released in Belgium, Finland, Germany, and Italy (as the Phonola VG-8000). The computer had a poor chiclet type keyboard, with two cartridge ports above it. The keyboard layout was ''qwerty'' or ''azerty'', according to the market the computer was sold. The AY-3-8910 is a 3-voice programmable sound generator (PSG) designed by General Instrument (GI) in 1978, initially for use with their 16-bit computing, 16-bit General Instrument CP1600, CP1610 or one of the PIC microcontrollers, PIC1650 series of 8-bit computing, 8-bit microcomputers. The AY-3-8910 and its variants were used in many arcade games—Konami's ''Gyruss'' contains five—and Bally pinball machines as well as being the sound chip in the Intellivision and Vectrex video game consoles, and the Amstrad CPC, Oric-1, Colour Genie, Elektor TV Games Computer, MSX, Tiki 100 and later ZX Spectrum home computers. MSX BASIC
MSX BASIC is a dialect of the BASIC programming language. It is an extended version of Microsoft's MBASIC Version 4.5, adding support for graphic, music, and various peripherals attached to MSX microcomputers. Generally, MSX BASIC is designed to follow GW-BASIC, released the same year for IBM PCs and clones. During the creation of MSX BASIC, effort was made to make the system flexible and expandable. Distribution MSX BASIC came bundled in the Read-only memory, ROM of all MSX computers. Philips VG-8020
The VG-8020 was Philips' third MSX computer introduced in 1984, after the VG-8000 and the VG-8010 computers. With a price of 2990 Fr, the machine was MSX1 standard compatible, had a real keyboard (instead of a chiclet keyboard like its predecessors) and a printer port (missing on the previous models). The VG-8020 was manufactured by Kyocera and featured a Zilog Z80A microprocessor clocked at 3.56 MHz, 64KB of RAM, 16KB of VRAM, two cartridge slots and two joystick ports. The machine came with MSX BASIC 1.0 in ROM and graphics were provided by a Texas Instruments TMS9929A, with RF and composite video outputs.
