Philippe De Lannoy
Count Philippe de Lannoy (14 August 1922 – 10 January 2019) was a Belgian noble and provincial councillor of Hainaut. He was the alderman of finance for Frasnes-lez-Anvaing. He was the father of Stéphanie, Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. His full name was Philippe Marie Ernest Albert; his title in French was ''comte de Lannoy et du Saint-Empire''. Early life Philippe was born as the eldest child of Count Paul Charles de Lannoy (1898-1980) and his wife, Princess Marie Béatrix of Ligne (1898-1982), daughter of Ernest, 10th Prince of Ligne (1857-1937) and Diane de Cossé-Brissac (1869-1950). Personal life He married his wife, the late Countess Alix de Lannoy, in 1965. Countess Alix de Lannoy, born Alix della Faille de Leverghem, died on 27 August 2012 at the age of 70. Lannoy Family
The House of Lannoy is the name of an old and important Belgian noble family that takes its name from the French town of Lannoy, Nord. The name comes from ''l'Annoy'' (or ''l'Annoit'', from Latin ''alnetum'') which means «the alderwood» in Picard French of Flanders. History The oldest known ancestor is one Gillion de l'Annoit who lived in the 13th century. Many of his descendants were members of the Order of the Golden Fleece. They played a prominent role in Flanders during the Middle Ages. Different family branches and lines existed amongst the Lords of Beaurepaire, Clervaux, Princes of Sulmona and Princes of Rheina-Wolbeck. The Volunteer's Medal 1940–1945 (french: "Médaille du Volontaire 1940–1945", nl, "Medaille van de Oorlogsvrijwilliger 1940–1945") was a Belgian war medal established by royal decree of the Regent on 16 February 1945 and awarded to Belgian and foreign civilians who voluntarily enlisted in the Belgian Armed Forces during the Second World War. The medal could also be awarded to volunteers serving in the Belgian units of the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy or British merchant navy. Award description The Volunteer's Medal 1940–1945 was a 38 mm in diameter circular bronze medal. The obverse bore the relief image of a soldier standing at ease holding a rifle with a bayonet, the soldier is superimposed over a large capital letter V in front of a rising sun.
