Philip Snyman
Philippus Albertus Borman Snyman (born 26 March 1987) is a South African former rugby union player and is currently a coach in Germany. As a player, he was the captain of South Africa's National Rugby 7s Team, Blitzbokke. He also played as a centre or winger for the Cheetahs in both Super Rugby and the Currie Cup. He was a member of the South African Sevens team that won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Playing career Super Rugby Snyman replaced Andries Strauss who was suspended for a dangerous tackle on Lions lock Wikus van Heerden in 2012. Sevens He made his sevens debut for the Blitzbokke at the 2008 Dubai Sevens. Free State Cheetahs
The Free State Cheetahs (), formerly known as Orange Free State (), currently named the Toyota Free State Cheetahs due to sponsorship reasons, are a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup tournament. They are governed by the Free State Rugby Union and are based at the 48,000 capacity Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs have won the Currie Cup six times, with five of the wins coming since 2005, including winning the cup three times consecutively from 2005 to 2007. Since the advent of professionalism in rugby union, they have been considered one of South Africa's "Big 5" provincial rugby Unions. Hermanus Carel du Preez (born in Hartswater, South Africa) is a South African rugby union player for the Enisei-STM in the Rugby Premier League. He can play as a number eight, a flanker or a lock. Career Youth and Amateur rugby Du Preez enrolled at the Stellenbosch Rugby Academy, where he earned a spot in the Western Province Amateur side. In 2013, he represented his club side Durbanville-Bellville at the inaugural SARU Community Cup competition, helping them to win the Bowl Final, effectively finishing third. 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens
The 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens was the sixth edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The tournament was held at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia. New Zealand won the tournament, defeating England 33–0 in the final. Attendance for the tournament was poor, with matches played in mostly empty stadiums. World Rugby, then known as the International Rugby Board (IRB), initially stated that the Rugby World Cup Sevens would be scrapped if rugby sevens were to be included in the Olympic sports, Olympic programme for the 2016 Summer Olympics. 2008–09 IRB Sevens World Series
The 2008–09 IRB Sevens World Series was the tenth of an annual IRB Sevens World Series of rugby union sevens tournaments for full national sides run by the International Rugby Board since 1999–2000. South Africa clinched the 2008–09 World Series, its first Series title. The defending series champions New Zealand finished fourth. Sevens is traditionally played in a two-day tournament format. However, the most famous event, the Hong Kong Sevens, is played over three days, largely because it involves 24 teams instead of the normal 16. 2008 Dubai Sevens
The Dubai Sevens is played annually as part of the IRB Sevens World Series for international rugby sevens (seven-a-side version of rugby union). The 2008 competition was held on November 28 and 29 at The Sevens, a brand-new facility built to host the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens. It was the first of eight events in the 2008-09 IRB Sevens World Series. The top-tier Cup trophy was won by South Africa. This was the first edition of the Dubai Sevens to be held at The Sevens. Johannes Lodewikus 'Wikus' van Heerden (born 25 February 1979 in Johannesburg) is a South African former rugby union player who played as a flanker. He finished his career playing for the Lions in Super Rugby, and the Golden Lions in the national Currie Cup competition. Van Heerden also won 14 caps for the South Africa national team, the Springboks. Before his move to the Bulls, he was the captain of the Cats (now known as the Lions).
