Philip Lloyd Sherman (April 26, 1956 – August 9, 2023) was an American Orthodox Jewish cantor, ''mohel'', and actor. Over a 45-year career, Sherman performed more than 26,000 '' brit milot'' (Jewish ritual circumcisions), for which he was called "America's Top Mohel" and "the busiest ''mohel'' in New York." As an actor, he made appearances in television shows such as '' The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'' and ''Orange Is the New Black''. Early life Philip Lloyd Sherman was born on April 26, 1956, to a secular Jewish family in Syracuse, New York. His maternal grandfather Isadore Jacobs had been a rabbi, ''dayan'', ''shochet'', and ''mohel''. His mother was an English teacher, and his father was a factory worker. He earned degrees in 1979 from a joint program at Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in music and Jewish studies. Third Avenue
Third Avenue is a north-south thoroughfare on the East Side of the New York City borough of Manhattan, as well as in the center portion of the Bronx. Its southern end is at Astor Place and St. Mark's Place. It transitions into Cooper Square, and further south, the Bowery, Chatham Square, and Park Row. The Manhattan side ends at East 128th Street. Third Avenue is two-way from Cooper Square to 24th Street, but carries only northbound (uptown) traffic while in Manhattan above 24th Street; in the Bronx, it is again two-way. However, the Third Avenue Bridge carries vehicular traffic in the opposite direction, allowing only southbound vehicular traffic, rendering the avenue essentially non-continuous to motor vehicles between the boroughs. ''Storage Wars'' (stylized as ''STORAGE WAR$'') is an American reality television competition series that airs on the A&E network. It premiered on December 1, 2010. A 16th season is scheduled to premiere on June 7, 2025. When rent is not paid on a storage locker for three months in California, the contents can be sold by an auctioneer as a single lot of items in the form of a cash-only auction. The show follows professional buyers who visit storage facilities throughout the state and bid on these lockers. Before each locker is auctioned, the buyers are given five minutes to inspect the contents from the doorway, but may not enter the locker or touch any of the items.
