Philip Crowell
Philip "Phil" Crowell (born March 26, 1978 in Truro, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian curler from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He currently plays lead for Team Paul Flemming. Career Crowell won his first Deloitte Tankard in 2010 with Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc. They went 3–8 at the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier. He won the provincial championship again in 2016 with Jamie Murphy. They failed to get out of the pre-qualifying tournament after losing the final to Northwest Territories' Jamie Koe. The team returned the following season after winning the Nova Scotia provincials once again and finished 4–7 in the main event. The team won their third consecutive Deloitte Tankard in 2018 and finished 5–6 at the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier. Also during the 2017–18 season, the team played in the 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials Pre-Trials, losing the tiebreaker to Jason Gunnlaugson. Truro, Nova Scotia
Truro ( Mi'kmaq: ''Wagobagitik''; Scottish Gaelic: ''Truru'') is a town in central Nova Scotia, Canada. Truro is the shire town of Colchester County and is located on the south side of the Salmon River floodplain, close to the river's mouth at the eastern end of Cobequid Bay. History The area has been home to the Mi'kmaq people for several centuries. The Mi'kmaq name for the Truro area, "Wagobagitik" means "end of the water's flow". Mi'kmaq people continue to live in the area at the Millbrook and Truro reserves of the Millbrook – We’kopekwitk band. Acadian settlers came to this area in the early 1700s. The Mi'kmaq name for the Truro area was shortened by the settlers to "Cobequid", and the bay to the west of the town is still named Cobequid Bay. Jamie Murphy (born 13 April 1981 in Saint John, New Brunswick) is a Canadian curler from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He is a former skip, and played at his first Brier in 2012. Career Jamie Murphy, originally from Quispamsis, is a former junior curler, representing New Brunswick at the Canadian Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002. Murphy's team had a notable 2010 season, losing in the semifinal of the Nova Scotia Men's Provincial Championship that year. In 2012 the team captured their provincial championship, defeating former Brier champion Mark Dacey. This earned Murphy's team their first trip to the Brier. The 2019 Deloitte Tankard, the provincial men's curling championship of Nova Scotia, was held from January 21 to 27 at the Dartmouth Curling Club in Dartmouth. The winning Stuart Thompson team represented Nova Scotia at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada's national men's curling championship. Matt Dunstone
Matthew Dunstone, nicknamed "the Sheriff" (born June 25, 1995) is a Canadian curler from Kamloops, British Columbia. Career Dunstone won the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 2013. He represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships, where he won the bronze medal. He was unable to defend his championship at the 2014 Canadian Juniors after losing in the finals of the Manitoba Canola Juniors to Braden Calvert. The next time he would represent Manitoba was in 2016, after winning the 2016 Manitoba Canola Juniors. This earned the Dunstone rink a spot in the 2016 Canadian Juniors where he won his second title after defeating Northern Ontario 11-4 in the final, and represented Canada at the 2016 World Junior Curling Championships, winning a bronze medal. Reid Carruthers
Reid Carruthers (born December 30, 1984) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Carruthers was the 2011 world champion—winning gold as a second on Jeff Stoughton's team—as well as a six-time provincial champion, the 2003 junior provincial champion, and the 2008 Manitoba provincial mixed champion. Carruthers currently skips a Winnipeg-based rink on the World Curling Tour. He also coaches the Kerri Einarson women's team. Steffen Walstad
Steffen Walstad (born February 10, 1989 in Oppdal) is a Norwegian curler from Oppdal. He currently skips his own team. Career Juniors Walstad played in three World Junior Curling Championships, from 2008 to 2010 inclusive. At the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships he played third for the Kristian Rolvsfjord rink, finishing in 4th place. At the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships he played second for the team, finishing in 5th place. And at the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships, he played second for the Steffen Mellemseter, finishing 5th overall. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario. The 2018 Canadian Beef Masters was held from October 23 to 28, at the Rath Eastlink Arena in Truro, Nova Scotia. This was the second Grand Slam and first major of the 2018–19 curling season. On the men's side, John Epping defeated Kevin Koe 7–4 in the final, completing a career Grand Slam for Epping, winning all four major events. On the women's side, Anna Hasselborg defeated Rachel Homan 8–7 to win their second straight Grand Slam. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. Jason Gunnlaugson
Jason Gunnlaugson is a Canadian curler currently living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gunnlaugson is known for having been hired by the Russian Curling Federation (RCF) to represent the country at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The deal which was announced in April 2010 fell through in November that year, when the Gunnlaugson team was fired by the RCF. Career Prior to his deal to play for Russia, Gunnlaugson had skipped his team out of Beausejour, Manitoba. In 2009, Gunnlaugson took over the reins of Daley Peters's team when Peters left the team to curl with his father Vic Peters. Gunnlaugson had been a member of the Peters team solely for the 2008-09 season, prior to that he had played third on the Reid Carruthers team. 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials
The 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings for sponsorship reasons) were held from December 2 to 10 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario. The winners of the men's and women's events would represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The women's final was won by Team Rachel Homan in front of her home town crowd. She defeated Team Chelsea Carey 6–5, after Carey missed a pivotal double takeout on her last shot of the 10th end. The men's final was won by Team Kevin Koe from Alberta. He defeated Team Mike McEwen 7–6, drawing to the button for one on the last stone of the 10th end.
