Philadelphia Ramblers (EHL)
The Philadelphia Ramblers were a minor professional ice hockey team based in the Philadelphia Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Ramblers played for nine seasons in the Eastern Hockey League from 1955 to 1964. After the end of the 1963-64 season, the team relocated to Cherry Hill, New Jersey and were renamed the Jersey Devils (not to be confused with the NHL team). Former members of the EHL Ramblers included Ted Harris (1956–58), future Toronto Maple Leafs coach John Brophy and goalie Ross Brooks who was one of the oldest rookies in the NHL playing for the Boston Bruins in the early 1970s. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary developmental league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Since the 2010–11 season, every team in the league has an affiliation agreement with one NHL team. When NHL teams do not have an AHL affiliate, players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL teams. Twenty-six AHL teams are located in the United States and the remaining six are in Canada. The league offices are located in Springfield, Massachusetts, and its current president is Scott Howson. In general, a player must be at least 18 years of age to play in the AHL or not currently be beholden to a junior ice hockey team. John Brophy (ice Hockey)
John Duncan Brophy (January 20, 1933 – May 23, 2016) was a Canadian ice hockey coach and hockey player who spent most of his career in minor professional leagues, including 18 years as a player in the Eastern Hockey League and 13 seasons as a coach in the East Coast Hockey League. From 1986 to 1988 the native of Antigonish was head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. Playing career Brophy was a tough defenceman who played 18 seasons in the Eastern Hockey League, racking up nearly 4,000 career penalty minutes between 1955 and 1973—the most in EHL history playing parts of nine seasons with the Long Island Ducks and retiring at the age of 40. The Philadelphia Ramblers were a minor professional ice hockey team based in the Philadelphia Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Ramblers played for six seasons during the infancy of the American Hockey League from 1935 to 1941. History The Ramblers were formerly known as the Philadelphia Arrows from 1927 to 1935 and played in the Canadian-American Hockey League. The team changed named to the Ramblers for the 1935–36 season. The Canadian American Hockey League merged into the International-American Hockey League in 1936, where the Ramblers competed for another four seasons, before that league became known as the modern-day American Hockey League. Doug Adam
Douglas Patrick Adam (September 7, 1923 – December 24, 2001) was a Canadian professional ice hockey forward and coach. He spent most of his career, which lasted from 1942 to 1961, in the minor leagues, but did play four games in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers during the 1949–50 season. He was born in Toronto, Ontario. Career Adam was signed by the New York Rangers as a free agent in 1947, and played for various minor league affiliates of the Rangers until 1955. In February 1950, Adam played four games at the NHL level with the Rangers in 1949–50, wearing number 19. During those four games, he scored no goals, but earned one assist. After leaving the Rangers organization, Adam became a playing coach with the Philadelphia Ramblers in the EHL. Donald Ross Brooks (born October 17, 1937) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who played three seasons with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1972 and 1975. His NHL debut at the age of 36 made him one of the oldest rookies in professional hockey history. Playing career Brooks had a long minor league career which included seven seasons for the Providence Reds of the American Hockey League (AHL), and shared the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award for lowest goals against average in the AHL with teammate Dan Bouchard in 1972.
