The IVB-Philadelphia Golf Classic was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It was played at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1980. Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania
Lafayette Hill is an unincorporated community, which is situated primarily within Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. A small part of this community is also located in Springfield Township. Located just west of Philadelphia's Chestnut Hill neighborhood, and south of Plymouth Meeting, Lafayette Hill, which has also been known, historically, as "Barren Hill," draws its name from the French General Marquis de Lafayette, who encamped there with his soldiers during the American Revolution. History Before the general decampment from Valley Forge in the spring of 1778, George Washington dispatched an estimated 2,200 troops under the command of Marquis de Lafayette to act as a defensive screen and to conduct reconnaissance of the British army, which had garrisoned in Philadelphia for the winter. Tom Weiskopf
Thomas Daniel Weiskopf (November 9, 1942 – August 20, 2022) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. His most successful decade was the 1970s. He won 16 PGA Tour titles between 1968 and 1982, including the 1973 Open Championship. He was the runner-up at The Masters four times. After winding down his career playing golf, Weiskopf became a noted golf course architect. Early life Weiskopf was born in Massillon, Ohio. He attended Benedictine High School in Cleveland and Ohio State University, where he played on the golf team. Professional career In 1964, Weiskopf turned professional. Weiskopf's first win on the PGA Tour came at the 1968 Andy Williams-San Diego Open Invitational and fifteen more followed by 1982. Gil Morgan
Gilmer Bryan Morgan II, OD (born September 25, 1946) is an American professional golfer. Early life Morgan was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He graduated from East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma in 1968. Professional career In 1972, Morgan earned a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee before turning professional at golf later that year. He is a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Morgan won seven events on the PGA Tour between 1977 and 1990. He was also one of the most consistent top five finishers during this period. He posted 21 2nd place and 21 3rd place finishes on the PGA Tour in his career. The most prestigious tournament he won on the PGA Tour was the 1978 World Series of Golf. Bobby Wadkins
Robert Edwin Wadkins (born July 26, 1951) is an American professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Wadkins was born in Richmond, Virginia. His brother is Lanny Wadkins, a professional golfer. Between Bobby and Lanny, they held the Richmond, Virginia city junior title for six consecutive years – two by Bobby and four by Lanny. After attending the University of Houston for one year, Wadkins earned All-American honors in 1972–73 at East Tennessee State University. Professional career In 1973, Wadkins turned pro. He never won on the PGA Tour despite six runner-up finishes in 715 events, but he did win on the European Tour and the Japan Golf Tour. Lou Graham
Louis Krebs Graham (born January 7, 1938) is an American professional golfer. Graham won six PGA Tour tournaments including the 1975 U.S. Open. Early life Graham was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He started playing golf when he was seven years old. He attended Nashville's Father Ryan High School, and then Memphis State University, now the University of Memphis, in Memphis, Tennessee, where he played on the golf team for three years. Later, Graham was drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the Army, Graham served as a member of the ''Old Guard''—Company E of the Third U.S. Infantry Regiment—the ceremonial Honor Guard that guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. Terry Diehl
Terry J. Diehl (born November 9, 1949) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour from 1973 to 1983. Early life and amateur career Diehl was born and raised in Rochester, New York. At the age of 15, he won the international long drive competition when he hit a ball 340 yards. He attended the University of Georgia from 1968 to 1971 and was a member of the golf team, an All-American in 1969. Professional career Diehl had more than 20 top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events including a win at the 1974 San Antonio Texas Open; he shot a 19-under-par 269 and won by one stroke over Mike Hill. He finished solo second to Lee Trevino at the same tournament in 1980. Tom Kite
Thomas Oliver Kite Jr. (born December 9, 1949) is an American professional golfer and golf course architect. He won the U.S. Open in 1992 and spent 175 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking between 1989 and 1994. Early life and amateur career Kite was born in McKinney, Texas. He began playing golf at age six, and won his first tournament at age 11. Kite attended the University of Texas on a golf scholarship and was coached by Harvey Penick. At Texas, Kite was a first-team All-American in 1972 when he also shared the individual NCAA championship with team mate Ben Crenshaw. He helped the Longhorns win two NCAA Team Championships in 1971 an 1972 and Southwest Conference Championships in 1970 and 1972. World Golf Hall Of Fame
The World Golf Hall of Fame was, until recently, located at World Golf Village between Jacksonville, Florida and St. Augustine, Florida, in the United States. It is unusual amongst sports halls of fame in that a single site honored both men and women. It is supported by a consortium of 26 golf organizations from all over the world. Bob Wynn
Robert L. Wynn (January 27, 1940 – May 18, 2005) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. Early life Wynn was born in Lancaster, Kentucky. Professional career In 1966, Wynn turned pro. His victory at the 1976 B.C. Open was his only career win in a PGA Tour event. Wynn's final-round of 69 was enough to give him a one-stroke victory over Bob Gilder in that tournament. He had 17 career top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events. His best finish in a major championship was T24 at The Masters in 1977. After reaching the age of 50 in 1990, Wynn joined the Senior PGA Tour, where had one career win, the 1993 NYNEX Commemorative.
