Philadelphia Contemporary
Philadelphia Contemporary is an arts organization that commissions and presents contemporary visual art, performance art, and spoken word. It was founded in 2016 with the intention to build a new non-collecting museum in Philadelphia for contemporary art in all of its forms. Philadelphia Contemporary organizes exhibitions and events through partnerships and space-borrowing with institutions such as the Barnes Foundation, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, the Brandywine River Museum of Art, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. In 2018, Philadelphia Contemporary announced that the architecture firm Johnston Marklee would design their new building. Harry Philbrick
Harry Lyman Philbrick (born September 25, 1958) is an American art curator who is the founding director of the nonprofit arts organization Philadelphia Contemporary. He is Interim Executive Director at the Fabric Workshop and Museum. From 2011 to 2016, he was Director of the Museum at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), and previously worked as Director of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum from 1996 to 2010. At PAFA, Philbrick developed community education programs and increased the amount of contemporary art in the museum's collection and exhibitions. Philbrick started at The Aldrich Museum as Director of Education, developing a student docent program that trained young people to lead tours for their peers. Under Philbrick’s directorship, the Aldrich Museum expanded its exhibition space and created an education center and sculpture garden. Barnes Foundation
The Barnes Foundation is an art collection and educational institution promoting the appreciation of art and horticulture. Originally in Merion, the art collection moved in 2012 to a new building on Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The arboretum of the Barnes Foundation remains in Merion, where it has been proposed to be maintained under a long-term educational affiliation agreement with Saint Joseph's University. The Barnes was founded in 1922 by Albert C. Barnes, who made his fortune by co-developing Argyrol, an antiseptic silver compound that was used to combat gonorrhea and inflammations of the eye, ear, nose, and throat. He sold his business, the A.C. Barnes Company, just months before the stock market crash of 1929. Brandywine River Museum Of Art
The Brandywine Museum of Art is a museum of regional and American art located on U.S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania on the banks of the Brandywine Creek. The museum showcases the work of Andrew Wyeth, a major American realist painter, and his family: his father N.C. Wyeth, illustrator of many children's classics; his sister Ann Wyeth McCoy, a composer and painter; and his son Jamie Wyeth, a contemporary American realist painter. History The museum is a program of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art. It opened in 1971 through the efforts of "Frolic" Weymouth, who also served on its board. Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR) is the municipal department responsible for managing parks, recreation centers, playgrounds, trails, community gardens, and historic properties in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
