South Wales East (National Assembly For Wales Constituency)
South Wales East () is an electoral region of the Senedd, consisting of eight United Kingdom constituencies, constituencies. The region elects 12 members, eight directly elected constituency members and four Mixed member proportional representation, additional members. The electoral region was first used in 1999 National Assembly for Wales election, 1999, when the National Assembly for Wales was created. Each constituency elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post electoral system, and the region as a whole elects four additional or top-up Members of the Senedd, to create a degree of proportional representation. North Pole
The North Pole, also known as the Geographic North Pole or Terrestrial North Pole, is the point in the Northern Hemisphere where the Earth's rotation, Earth's axis of rotation meets its surface. It is called the True North Pole to distinguish from the North magnetic pole, Magnetic North Pole. Dafydd Iwan
Dafydd Iwan Jones (born 24 August 1943) is a Welsh people, Welsh singer and Welsh nationalism, nationalist politician who rose to fame writing and performing folk music in the Welsh language. From 2003 to 2010, Iwan was the president of Plaid Cymru, a political party which advocates for Welsh independence from the UK. Early life Dafydd Iwan Jones was born in Brynamman, Carmarthenshire. Dafydd Ellis Thomas
Dafydd Elis Elis-Thomas, Baron Elis-Thomas, (; 18 October 1946 – 7 February 2025) was a Welsh politician who served as the leader of Plaid Cymru from 1984 to 1991 and represented the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency in the Senedd from 1999 to 2021. Born in Carmarthen, Wales, he was raised in Ceredigion and the Conwy Valley. He represented Merioneth and later Meirionnydd Nant Conwy as a member of Parliament (MP) from 1974 to 1992, and was Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales from the office's inception in 1999 to 2011. Robin Miriam Carlsson (; born 12 June 1979), known professionally as Robyn (), is a Swedish singer, songwriter, record producer, and DJ. Edward Glynne Millward (28 June 1930 – 18 April 2020), also known as Tedi Millward, was a Wales, Welsh scholar and Welsh nationalism, nationalist politician. Eurfyl ap Gwilym (born 14 November 1944) is a Welsh economist, deputy chairman of the Principality Building Society, and a Plaid Cymru politician. He was born in Penparcau, Ceredigion and was educated at Ardwyn Grammar School followed by a BSc and PhD at King's College London. Chris Rees
Edward Christopher Rees (5 January 1931 – 1 December 2001), known as Chris Rees, was a Welsh nationalist politician. Rees grew up in Swansea and joined Plaid Cymru at an early age. In 1951, he refused to do National Service, on the grounds that he was Welsh, and was sentenced to a year in prison. While imprisoned again later, he stood for the party in Gower at the 1955 general election, taking just over 10% of the vote. The 2003 National Assembly for Wales election was the second general election to the National Assembly for Wales. It was held on 1 May 2003. 1999 National Assembly For Wales Election
The 1999 National Assembly for Wales election was held on Thursday 6 May 1999 to elect 60 members to the Senedd, at the time called the National Assembly for Wales (Welsh Parliament; ). It was the first devolved general election held in Wales after the successful 1997 Welsh devolution referendum. The election was held alongside the Scottish Parliament election (also the first of its kind) and English local elections. Although Welsh Labour were the biggest party, they did not gain enough seats to form a majority government and instead entered into coalition with the Liberal Democrats.
