Phil Mauger
Philip Simon Mauger (born ) is a politician and former businessman who has served as the Mayor of Christchurch since 2022. Before entering politics, Mauger owned and operated an earthmoving and construction company. In 2019 he was elected to the Christchurch City Council as councillor for the Burwood ward. At the following local-body elections in 2022 he was elected mayor of Christchurch. Early life and business career Mauger grew up in Burwood, later moving to Avonhead. He is the son of Warner and Patricia Mauger. Warner operated a service station and car mechanic business in Burwood. In 1974 he started working for his grandfather's company Maugers Contracting, later becoming the owner. The business works mainly in earthworks for subdivisions, roads and drainage. The business was involved in restoring roads in the east of Christchurch after the 2010 Christchurch earthquakes. 1974 British Commonwealth Games
The 1974 British Commonwealth Games () were held in Christchurch, New Zealand, from 24 January to 2 February 1974. The bid vote was held in Edinburgh at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games. The event was officially named "the friendly games". There were 1,276 competitors and 372 officials, according to the official history, and public attendance was excellent. The main venue was the QEII Park, purpose-built for this event. The Athletics Stadium and fully covered Olympic standard pool, diving tank, and practice pools were all on the one site. The theme song was " Join Together", sung by Steve Allen. The event was held after the 1974 Commonwealth Paraplegic Games in Dunedin for wheelchair athletes. 2030 Commonwealth Games
The 2030 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXIV Commonwealth Games, is a forthcoming multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations that is due to be held in 2030. Pothole
A pothole is a pot-shaped depression in a road surface, usually asphalt pavement, where traffic has removed broken pieces of the pavement. It is usually the result of water in the underlying soil structure and traffic passing over the affected area. Water first weakens the underlying soil; traffic then fatigues and breaks the poorly supported asphalt surface in the affected area. Continued traffic action ejects both asphalt and the underlying soil material to create a hole in the pavement. David Meates
David William Meates (born ) is a New Zealand business leader in Christchurch, New Zealand, and son of former All Black, Bill Meates. He was chief executive of Canterbury and West Coast District Health Boards until 4 September 2020. He resigned because of alleged pressure from the Ministry of Health, Crown monitor of the Health Board and Canterbury District Health Board over cost cutting measures.
