Phil Jamieson
Philip Jamieson (born 18 April 1977) is an Australian musician from Hornsby, New South Wales. He is a founding member and singer-guitarist for the rock band Grinspoon. Early life and education Philip William H. Jamieson was born on 18 April 1977 in Hornsby, New South Wales, while his parents were on the road. His father was the singer of a Christian rock 'n' roll band, Good Grief, while his mother was a keyboard player in the support act. The pair toured beach missions on a Baptist church initiative on the east coast of the state. In 1983 they moved to Bourke to the Christian community, Cornerstone. Jamieson has three sisters. In the late 1980s, Jamieson became "quite obsessed" with pop music and the top ten hits on the charts. Hornsby, New South Wales
Hornsby is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region, or Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia, approximately north-west of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre of the local government area of Hornsby Shire. History The name Hornsby is derived from convict-turned-constable Samuel Henry Horne, who took part in the apprehension of bushrangers Dalton and MacNamara on 22 June 1830. In return he was granted land which he named Hornsby Place. The suburb of Hornsby was established on the traditional lands of the Darug and Kurringgai people. There are more than 200 known Aboriginal sites in the Hornsby Shire. The first European settler in the area was Thomas Higgins, who received a grant of land in Old Mans Valley. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. ''Pushing Buttons'' is the third extended play by Australian alternative rock band Grinspoon, and was released on 21 September 1998 via Universal Records. It peaked at number 13 on the ARIA Singles Chart. History and release In March 1998, Grinspoon moved to Los Angeles and spent much of the year touring the US and Canada, including opening for Creed, Lit, Godsmack and Anthrax. While in the US, Grinspoon recorded two songs, "Black Friday" and "More Than You Are" with Ulrich Wild ( White Zombie, Pantera, Strung Out), which formed the basis of ''Pushing Buttons''. The band returned to Australia in September to release ''Pushing Buttons'', which peaked at No. 13 on the ARIA Singles Chart. ''Six to Midnight'' is the sixth studio album by Australian post-grunge band Grinspoon, released through Chk Chk Boom Records and Universal Music on 11 September 2009. "Dogs" was the first song made available to the public, being released for free over the internet before the album's release. "Comeback" is the album's first single. The album debuted at number six on the Australian Albums Chart. The first official single, "Comeback", peaked at number 48 on the Australian Singles Chart. ''Six to Midnight'' was produced by Rick Will (Johnny Cash, No Doubt, Nine Inch Nails), with the band returning to their home town of Byron Bay to record the album. Will also mixed the album. ''Alibis & Other Lies'' is the fifth studio album by Grinspoon, which was released 21 July 2007. The first single from the album is Black Tattoo, being released as a digital download on 23 June and on Single 30 June 2007. Ramesh Sathiah, producer of Green Album and Licker Bottle Cozy, is producing the album. "Black Tattoo" is more similar to songs from ''Guide to Better Living'' than the songs off their last album, but the rest of the songs range from AC/DC-esque rockers like "Choirboy" to country rock songs like "Find Your Own Way", to glam metal songs like "Carried Away" and to soft rock songs like "Minute by Minute". This was their final album under their current contract with Universal Music Australia. The album sessions were delayed during February to April as Phil Jamieson was in rehabilitation due to addiction to crystal methamphetamines. ''New Detention'' is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Grinspoon. It was released in 2002 by record label Grudge, which peaked at No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart. By December that year it was certified platinum for shipment of 70,000 units. Content The ballad " Chemical Heart" marked a change in focus for the band towards a more mature, mainstream sound. This change would become more apparent on their next album, ''Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills'' (2004), however, ''New Detention'' did contain songs in the classic Grinspoon style to appeal to fans of their previous work, such as the songs "Boltcutter" and "Killswitch". Easy is the second studio album released by the Australian rock band Grinspoon. It was released on 1 November 1999, debuting at No. 4 on the Australian album charts and remaining in the top 50 for 13 weeks. It eventually achieved platinum sales in Australia. Work on the album began in August 1999 with the producer Jonathan Burnside ( Nirvana, Melvins, Depeche Mode, Meat Beat Manifesto). The album was recorded in Sydney and mixed in Melbourne. The initial release of the album included a bonus disc containing eleven live tracks from the band's New Year's Eve performance at the 1998 Falls Festival. ''Guide to Better Living'' is the debut studio album by Australian rock band Grinspoon. It was released on 16 September 1997 on the Grudge Records label (an imprint of Universal Music Australia) and was produced by Phil McKellar. The album reached number 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart and spent 36 weeks on the national charts. The album peaked at number 8 when rereleased in 2017. Grinspoon (EP)
''Grinspoon EP'', also known as the ''Green EP'', is the debut extended play by the Australian band Grinspoon. The six-track EP was recorded over two weeks at Grevillia Studios in Brisbane in July 1995, with producer, Ramesh Sathiah, and was released on 1 August 1995 via local independent record label, Oracle Records. Phil Jamieson, on lead vocals and guitar, co-wrote four tracks with Pat Davern, on lead guitar. One track, "Let It Go", was co-written by Jamieson with Joe Hansen, their bass guitarist, and another track, "Point of View", was written solely by Jamieson. The band was influenced at that time by the nu metal movement, including work by Helmet and Prong. The EP includes an early version of "Sickfest", the song that gave the band a national profile by winning youth broadcaster, Triple J's inaugural Unearthed competition. Triple J
Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
