Phan Wannamethee
Phan Wannamethee (born 30 January 1923) is a Thai diplomat who served as the sixth Secretary-General of ASEAN, secretary-general of ASEAN between 1984 and 1986. Education Phan Wannamethee graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in international relations from the University of California, Berkeley. Secretary-General of ASEAN As Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), he played an important role and is behind the draft of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. Roderick Yong
Roderick Yong Yin Fatt (; born 6 November 1932) is a retired Bruneian educator and diplomat who made history as the first Bruneian and the seventh Secretary-General of ASEAN, serving from 1986 to 1989. He played a pivotal role in Brunei's Education in Brunei, education system, becoming the first English-medium education, English-medium teacher with secondary qualifications and later leading the Chinese School Division, where he oversaw curriculum development and teacher registration. Early life and education Yong Yin Fatt, born on 6 November 1932, is the eldest of ten siblings. Chan Kai Yau
Chan Kai Yau (19 November 1930 – 6 June 2025) was a Singaporean educator, civil servant, and diplomat. He was Director of Education from 1975 to 1982 and later the first Singaporean to serve as Secretary-General of ASEAN from 1982 to 1984. Early life and education Chan was born in Hong Kong on 19 November 1930. His family moved to Penang, Malaya before the Second World War where he attended Chung Ling High School. Following the war, he studied Mathematics at the University of Malaya and later received a Colombo Plan scholarship to study a Master of Mathematical Statistics from the University of Sydney in Australia.
