Phalaris (album)
''Phalaris'' (stylized as ''PHALARIS'') is the eleventh studio album by Japanese heavy metal band Dir En Grey, released on June 15, 2022, via Firewall Div./SMEJ. Background ''Phalaris'' is the first album in 4 years since ''The Insulated World'', and marks the 25th anniversary of the band's formation. Re-recorded versions of two earlier singles "Mazohyst of Decadence" (from ''Gauze'') and "Ain't Afraid to Die" are included exclusively for the limited edition bonus CD of this release. The title and artwork for ''Phalaris'' is inspired by the ancient tyrant Phalaris and the torture device he invented, the Brazen bull, "in which victims were roasted alive. An internal mechanism was said to distort the screams of the victims into the cries of cattle." A music video for "The Perfume of Sins" was released on June 14, 2022, "just two hours before midnight of the album's official release on June 15." Dir En Grey (stylized as DIR EN GREY and previously as Dir en grey) is a Japanese Heavy metal music, heavy metal band formed in February 1997 and currently signed to Firewall Div., a sub-division of Free-Will. With a consistent lineup of guitarists vocalist Kyo (musician), Kyo, Kaoru (musician), Kaoru and Die (musician), Die, bassist Toshiya (musician), Toshiya, and drummer Shinya (Dir En Grey musician), Shinya, they have released eleven full-length albums. Numerous stylistic changes have made the genre of their music difficult to determine, though it is generally considered to be a form of metal. Dynamite Tommy
, better known by his stage name Dynamite Tommy, is a Japanese musician, record producer and businessman. He first rose to prominence as vocalist of the punk rock band Color in the late-1980s and early-1990s, but now predominantly works behind the scenes running his record label Free-Will. Career Dynamite Tommy formed the punk rock band Color in 1985, for which he was initially the guitarist before quickly taking over the role of vocalist. In 1986, Tommy formed the independent record label Free-Will to distribute his band's work. It is one of two labels credited with helping to spread Japan's visual kei movement. It has also been a major contributor in spreading modern visual kei outside Japan. Kyo (musician)
is a Japanese musician, singer, lyricist and poet. He is best known as the vocalist and lyricist of the Heavy metal music, heavy metal band Dir En Grey. He was formerly in a string of visual kei rock bands, with the most notable being La:Sadie's from 1996 to 1997. When they disbanded, he formed Dir En Grey in February 1997 with three of its members. Kyo formed the experimental rock band Sukekiyo in 2013, and the supergroup (music), supergroup Petit Brabancon (band), Petit Brabancon in 2021. Career Kyo was inspired to become a musician when he saw a picture of Buck-Tick vocalist Atsushi Sakurai on the desk of a junior high school classmate. When he then discovered X Japan he was particularly fond of Hide (musician), hide and had his parents buy him the guitarist's black signature model guitar. ageHa (also as 'AGH') was a weekend club event in Tokyo, Japan. It was held on Friday and Saturday at the Usen Studio Coast event space in the Shin-Kiba district, which also hosted live concerts and other events. The word ''Ageha'' is Japanese for 'Swallowtail butterfly'. The event's name has also been presented in the 3-letter-version 'AGH' in capital letters, for instance on the official staff shirts. Phalaris () was the tyrant of Akragas (now Agrigento) in Sicily in Magna Graecia, from approximately 570 to 554 BC. History Phalaris was renowned for his excessive cruelty. Among his alleged atrocities is cannibalism: he was said to have eaten suckling babies. Another expression of his sadistic brutality is that he supposedly ordered a sculptor named Perilaus to make him a brazen hollow bull. The bull could hold a man and was used as an execution machine. The condemned person was placed inside, then the bull was closed and a fire lit underneath. The sculpture was made in such a way that, while the condemned met a horrible death in the burning furnace, their cries were said to sound like the bellowing of a bull.
