Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Pfeil
Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Pfeil (28 March 1783 – 4 September 1859) was a German forester. Pfeil was born in Friesdorf, Rammelburg. From 1801 onward, he trained and worked as a forester at several sites in the Harz region, Canton of Neuchâtel, Neuchâtel and Silesia. As a soldier in the Napoleonic Wars he fought at the Battles of Battle of Großbeeren, Großbeeren and Battle of Wartenburg, Wartenburg. From 1816 he was employed as a forester in the service of Heinrich Karl Erdmann, prince of Carolath-Beuthen. In 1821 he was awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Berlin, and despite lacking a university education, was named a professor of forest science. In 1830 when the department of forestry was relocated to Eberswalde, he was named its director, a position he maintained up until his retirement in 1859. The Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (, literally ''University for Sustainable Development''; abbreviated in German as ''HNE Eberswalde'' or ''HNEE'') is a Fachhochschule in Eberswalde, Germany. It was founded 1830 as a higher institute (''Höhere Forstlehranstalt'') of forestry. Eberswalde
Eberswalde () is a major town and the administrative seat of the district Barnim in Brandenburg in north-eastern Germany, about northeast of Berlin. Population 42,144 (census in June 2005). The town is often called Waldstadt (forest town), because of the large forests around it, including the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. Despite this fact, Eberswalde was an important industrial center until the German Reunification. History Prehistory The area around Eberswalde was already populated in Paleolithic. Robert Raymond Pfeil (born November 13, 1943) is an American former professional baseball third baseman, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) in and for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, respectively. He threw and batted right-handed. Pfeil attended Reseda High School, making the varsity team his junior year. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Cubs in 1961, Pfeil was traded with Hal Gilson to the St. Louis Cardinals for Bob Humphreys on April 7, 1965. Before the start of the 1968 season, Pfeil was sent from the Cardinals to the New York Mets, in an unknown transaction. Pfeil made his big league debut at the age of 25 on June 26, 1969, against Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Grant Jackson. David Pfeil is a retired American soccer midfielder who played professionally in the USISL, Major Indoor Soccer League and Continental Indoor Soccer League. He was a member of the United States men's national under-20 soccer team at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship. Pfeil graduated from Kimball High School where he was a four-year varsity soccer player. Pfeil attended Southern Methodist University, playing on the men's soccer team from 1986 to 1990. In 1991, Pfeil joined the Dallas Rockets of the USISL. He played for them through 1994. In the fall of 1991, he signed with the Dallas Sidekicks of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Count Joachim von Pfeil (1857-1924) was a German explorer and colonist in Africa and New Guinea. Biography He was born at Neurode, in Silesia, studied at the gymnasium of Göttingen. In 1873, he went to the Colony of Natal. There he learned the vernacular and stayed in the country four years. In 1879, after a visit to Europe, he settled in Orange Free State and with Wilson mapped the course of the Limpopo river. After falling ill, he returned to Germany. Mark Pfeil (born July 18, 1951) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. Early life and amateur career Pfeil was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He attended the University of Southern California, where he was a two-time All-American as a member of the golf team — third-team in 1973 and second-team in 1974. While playing for the Trojans, Pfeil and his teammates, including future Masters champion Craig Stadler, lead them to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championship in 1973, and a fourth-place finish a year later. The Dornier Do 335 ''Pfeil'' (Arrow) is a heavy fighter built by Dornier for Germany during World War II. The ''Pfeil''s performance was predicted to be better than other twin-engine designs due to its unusual push-pull configuration and the lower aerodynamic drag of the in-line alignment of the two engines. It is considered one of the fastest piston-engined aircraft ever and was Nazi Germany's fastest piston-engined aircraft of World War II. The ''Luftwaffe'' was desperate to get the design into operational use, but delays in engine deliveries meant that only a handful were delivered before the war ended. The Do 335 was originally designed as a Schnellbomber.
